Free Guy (2021)
Pretty Good
I thought this was a good movie. It's funny for the most part, but predictable.
One thing, though: Is it ok to make a movie today without the woke BS? I gotta constantly hear "white privilege" in movies, then we get to hear about how "gun control" is a huge problem in "our world." Give it a rest.
I'd still suggest watching it.
The Suicide Squad (2021)
Movie was alright...
It's got that James Gunn feel, I liked the movie overall. A lot of low-key Anti-American themes in it. "Typical Americans, coming in and blowing everything up," Peacemaker being an obvious personification of the perceived corruption and hypocrisy of America from Hollywood. I know the US has its flaws too, but lay off of it a little.
Otherwise, I liked it.
Let Him Go (2020)
Could have been more
I had a lot of questions at the end. Mostly, how did the family get such a reputation where they were allowed to just run amok. Why was the town afraid of them?
I was rooting for Costner at the and and I didn't like how it ended, but I get the tie to her whispering in his ear.
Then they leave the scene at the end and just go home? It left a lot of ends untied.
I liked it overall and loved the character played by Costner. The wife was kind of annoying.
Hillbilly Elegy (2020)
I could relate
I loved this movie, as I grew up the same way. I even live in Cincinnati, so I'm familiar with both Jackson and Middletown.
I grew up with a mother who was an addict, and I remember some of the best times of my life being when I could spend time with my grandmother. The experiences were so close to mine it was almost surreal.
That being said, I could relate to JD growing up so I favored the movie already. I understood how he felt and the choices that were made. If you grew up like this then the story is great. It's good to know others went through the same thing.
There wasn't anything super exceptional about the movie because it's about someone's real life. I knew what was coming next because addiction and this lifestyle is a vicious circle.
Anyway, if you can relate, it's a good movie, if you're going to sit on the outside and criticize it like you would a fictional story, then there's not much to get too excited about.
Songbird (2020)
Refund Please
Save your time and money...
I was interested to see how they showed the pandemic and the surveillance measures being put into place. I would have liked to see how dystopian it could be.
Instead, I got a garbage, predictable movie with VERY CRINGEY dialogue between the two main characters. None of the character arcs were developed. I couldn't care less about any of them. None of the interactions made sense. The "immunity bands" didn't really even play a role. For instance, when she was transported to the Q zone, they didn't realize she never had it on? Why would they arrest her if she had one on already, now after she's out of the van they see she has one?
There's no politics in this movie, it really could be made with any underlying crisis in the background. People who used their reviews to make political rants need to stop drinking the kool aid. It's a bad movie, that's it. It's not bad because I don't like the non-existing political message. It's bad because it's bad.
