I know Joker from the comics that he don't really have an origin story. There are various version on how he got to be the 'Joker'. So in this movie they really have the freedom. Throughout the film we see Arthur Fleck, the characters who have mental problem living in a very cruel society while also have to deal with personal family trouble that made the audiences to understand the action, the decision he made in the entire film.
Joaquin Phoenix's performance here is a top-tier for me. I really appreciate when an actor have such a dedication to the role they play. In this case, to give a mentally damaged, malnourished impression to the character of Arthur Fleck, Joaquin willing to lose his weight to look so skinny. Not only that, his acting was so excellent that every time Arthur made a terrible action, I feel terrified and also at the same time think it's the right thing to do considering what the character have been through.
Other aspect from the film also catch my attention. I like the scoring, some sound came at the right moment and time to elevate the tension. And when it doesn't needed the scene will just be very quiet and let the audience have time to processing what they just saw. I also like the theme they include in this movie with the tone and color they choose is very important to show the atmosphere of the city. For the pace, I feel like it was sometimes just to slow that almost got me bored.
But that just it, overall it's a movie about character study, where we got to understand the motivations behind all the character's action. It was a very unique movie experience for me.
