DULL & TEDIOUS
15 June 2022
So the 3rd installment of the Conjuring Universe is by far the worst in the series so far. Annabelle Creation is far superior in every way possible. This is just dullest film ever, felt like 4hrs not just over 90mins... I don't know what else to say apart from it's BAD.

Stunning...

Not being familiar with the source material or the David Lynch take I went into this genuinely not knowing what to expect and I have to say I was mesmerised. The story was intriguing and I was pulled into this lush but barren world. I'm a big fan of a slow burn so I enjoyed the pacing of this film and visually it is absolutely stunning. I cannot wait for the 2nd installment.

Disappointing snooze fest.....
2 June 2022
In a more open minded approach to modern horror I decided to give the Conjuring Universe a go. I also decided it was best to watch it in chronological order rather than the order they were released theatrically. So first up was The Nun and wow what a disappointing snooze fest it turned out to be, after such a strong start it just became dull and predictable. I honestly didn't go in with high hopes as these paranormal/ghost/possession type horrors don't usually interest me as I find them boring for the most part, I'm sure there are good ones out there but more often than not their very samey imo. Obviously the original Exorcist was a masterpiece but that goes without saying. Anyhoo I digress.... The Nun lived up to my worst fears and doesn't give me much hope for this franchise. However I hope to be proved wrong and shall preserve, lord knows I've done it enough times for my beloved slasher franchises and wow that's not always been easy.

Surprisingly decent
2 June 2022
So the 2nd entry in the Conjuring Universe (chronologically) was a surprisingly strong entry in the series. I really wasn't expecting much after the rather dull The Nun, but this film was a pleasant surprise. The acting from the 2 main younger girls was really excellent and is why I've rated it so highly as I was very invested in their characters thanks to their strong believable performances, also Anthony LaPlaglia was a rather ominous presence. The pacing was better than The Nun which helped. Overall a strong 8/10.

Disappointing....
24 January 2022
I was absolutely 100% on board with this film... until the ending. I'm a big fan of a slow burn if I feel it's going somewhere and I was very invested in this film and characters. I went in expecting a typical sci-fi alien abduction esque film but it quickly felt more like a grounded family drama surrounding the dissapperance of a child a year prior. I felt the family dynamics were actually very realistic and grounded, not the normal OTT soap operatic that tend to get injected into almost everything these days.

I was initially thrown by the Sci fi elements but that just intrigued me further and I quickly realised this was a film where the "pay off" or ending would ultimately make or break the film, unfortunately this broke the film for me. After all the intrigue and build up it the ending ultimately killed it for me and I was left bewildered and frustrated.

A good old school blockbuster 👌

This was my first time watching the film in over 20 years and I was very happy to see it again. Old school 80's action with practical effects and real sets, what an utter joy. Harrison Ford was excellent as Indy and the rest of the cast were fine if not a little clunky at times. The humour was excellent and very slapstick in places which I enjoyed immensely. The ending was a bit meh for me and I felt it dragged a little in the later part of the movie. Nonetheless I'd highly recommend to this everyone it's a great fun watch that has aged very well.

Enjoyable horror romp
20 January 2021
I found this film to be thoroughly enjoyable indeed. I enjoyed it's no nonsense approach choosing to skip trying to explain the why and just getting on with the carnage. It was a hard watch in the beginning because everybody was soo unlikeable (I get that was the point) but it led to a very satisfying 2nd half where all the asshats got their just desserts. Don't get me wrong I certainly wasn't on Arnies side by the films conclusion. Carpenter again proved why he is a master of his craft and why he remains one of my top 3 horror masterminds ever.

Wonder Woman done right...

I cannot tell you the level of anticipation I had surrounding this movie and I'm pleased to say overall I was not disappointed. Apart from the CGI tacked on ending it was pretty close to perfect for me. A visual treat with a great tonal balance of darkness but humour and heart injected. Gal Gadot clearly cares about the character and was able to deliver a stellar performance and Chris Pine was equally as strong, their chemistry is just off the charts and really helps sell the movie. A truly triumphant film in my book.

A beautiful colourful spectacle, sorely misunderstood by the masses

Warning: Spoilers
What can I say I thought this film was outstanding. It's brave, bold and full of heart. It really speaks to the Instagram culture of today a long with a less than subtle nod to Trump and the many many other vastly under qualified world leaders we find ourselves at the mercy of where anybody can be famous and apparently successful despite having no talent or anything good to offer the world. The 4 leads really truly delivered standout performances. I do wish the CGI of Cheetah had been done better but that's my only major gripe well that and the start of the film. In WW 1 Diana did not start training till she was (I'm guessing here based on the look of the young actress) 12 maybe but in WW84 we see her as little pint sized Diana competing in games???? I was a little confused by this if I'm honest. Overall however as I said this film was an utter joy to watch and I gladly watch it a million times more.

90's Saturday TV at it's best!!!!

I absolutely adored this series as a 14 year old child and still do as a 38 year old. Even back in the day I saw it for its many many flaws but at the same time it is just pure entertainment at its best. My main draw for this series was the wonderful Jaye Griffiths whom I had seen as the formidable D.I. Johnson in the Bill (when it was good) and I went on to become a life long fan of hers. I liked enjoyed Craig McLaughlin as the original Ed (loathed the 2nd incarnation) but was never a fan of Jesse Birdsall. The shows quality dropped even too low for me in the final 2 series with the introduction of Alex and Jan but it will always always hold a special place in my heart. The theme tune alone still gives me chills of joy to this very day.
