A Tale of Two Christmases (2022)
Weird Concept, Likeable Cast
I thought it would be a ground hog, family man, it'sa wonderful life style plot.
It's not. The concept almost made me not even want to watch it, but I did. Two tales, two different timelines, two different mains. All happening at the same time.... Or something. So weird.
Didn't love it. The main character played the role well, and the couple had some chemistry, but I think the screenwriter could've used some help .
Also, Candy canes dissolve in water. It's not gum.
They Did NOT need to cut off her hair...🙄 if they wanted a reason for a makeover, they could've at least used some red and green gum in her hair.
If You're Gone (2019)
Dissapointing
I'm sorry, I wanted to like this. But the plot and ending was really disappointing. I didn't feel like I got a lot out of it.
The reason he was gone was not really good enough, and trying to show the process of grief was just messy in the way the plot was. If he was actually dead, or gone back to his old life, that would have made more sense. But the ending.... what? The whole plot could have gone so many different directions and it would have been better, I feel like it just fell flat.
The acting didn't really bother me actually. I just wanted more out of it. Especially being a faith based movie.
Elle: A Modern Cinderella Tale (2010)
Very Cheesy Tween Movie
I do enjoy some cheese and tween movies, but this one is a bit to over the top. I did still watch the whole thing, but it was borderline as some parts.
If you don't like cheesy tween movies, don't even try. You'll just be upset.
Pretty ridiculous, but the main actors were cute. Not that the acting is great, it's not.
But it is a creative premise for the Cinderella story, a little different take.
If you are bored, it could be entertaining, but set the bar low.
Although, I'm too old to still be watching these anyways.... maybe a 9-11 year old would love it, and not notice the acting or plot.
Old Fashioned (2014)
I liked this more than I thought I would!
I'm sorry, but I LOVED this!
Yes, Clay is a bit weird, and takes it a bit too far in trying to be "perfect" by a certain standard, out of his guilt for his past. But that's the whole POINT. *some spoilers*
I loved the message of forgiveness, the imperfection of the characters, and the romance.
She did put up with a lot more than I expected, but I liked the messiness of it, the commitment. She loved him as he was, but she also pushed him to examine the core of his convictions. And he ended up forgiving himself, and realizing that he could love her with romance without becoming "that guy".
(But yes, if I was her, I would also sometimes give him a piece of my mind.)
There is a faith message in this movie. That's clear from the beginning. But I think it's a powerful message of forgiveness and the process of actually receiving and realizing it.
I did think there was chemistry. Awkward at times, and not as steamy maybe as some would like. And he did make some enemies in his stance at the bachelor party. It was out of concern for his friend, and to be honest, I would love to see my future husband turn down a lap dance because he was waiting for me. But it's weird and not "normal" for some.
And humility is something Clay was still working on, but it seems to have stemmed from his attempt to distance himself from his past out of the shame he was carrying, and his character was still working on stopping projecting that on others.
Clay wasn't the hero in this story, nor was she. God was. Neither were supposed to be "perfect". But they were a story of giving and receiving forgiveness, and learning to love. If you don't believe in a God who loves and forgives, and desires the same for us, you may not connect with this movie.
It's not sexy, but it's SO romantic, in my book anyway. I think it was incredibly well done.
