Class (1983)
This movie is absolutely STUPID
The story was so slow and pointless I found myself hunting around the room for small spores that might possibly sprout and grow into mushrooms by the time each actor managed to solidify his thoughts long enough to mumble a poorly worded and retarded sentence.
The story could have ended up with a point but it stopped dead in the middle of nothing. Do not watch this movie. I repeat: DO NOT WATCH THIS MOVIE.
The Matrix Reloaded (2003)
Started as a let-down, ended as a mind-job
I went in on Wednesday night having read a couple reviews that dissed the storyline. I must say that the first 45 minutes of this movie were almost completely uneccessary. Of course there's the conversation with the Oracle that starts to bring in some REALLY cool ideas, but the movie never really delivers on them. Many of Neo's higher "powers" that we witnessed after his resurrection are either gone or maybe he just doesn't enjoy them as much as kung fu. I was honestly expecting him to walk through walls or at least something other than punch, kick, punch, block, block, spin, throw, fly away.
The second half, however, was absolutely amazing. When Neo confronts the Architect, the information revealed was both suprising and yet somehow I felt like I had already known everything that was being revealed to me. The end of the movie gives the viewer a much fuller and different understanding of the Matrix than the original movie and it also expands the concept of the Matrix beyond what I had expected. It is less mystical and more like Smiths description right before the lobby scene in the original. I REALLY like the direction that they took Hugo Weaving's character, Smith.
You will see things in this movie that you probably weren't suspecting, although I'd rather not write a spoiler here. I'll just say that the line between the real world and the Matrix gets fuzzier toward the end.
One last thing: we were promised literally for years that not only would the special effects in this film raise the bar, they would totally shatter it. I'm gonna be honest and say that while the effects in this movie will not be copied to the extent that the original "bullet-time" shots were, they were not nearly as impressive as the hype indicated from Joel Silver and the gang.
All in all it is definitely a worthy sequel, if not only for the last 20 minutes of the film. I WILL be seeing it again.
xXx (2002)
Dom was cooler...
I went to go see this expecting Guns and Explosions Part VII, and that's exactly what I got. Amazing (impossible) stunts, lots of tatoos, big ol' guns, and... cars! It got old after a while though. It was much too far fetched for my taste. VD's acting is a bit worse than previous roles, but he does a decent job of being a bad-ace.
He lives his life a quarter-kilo at a time...
Bones (2001)
Good horror movie
SPOILER CONTAINED
I can't see why everyone is complaining about this movie. The plot was a little weak, but it's a horror movie. say that to yourself while you watch it and you won't hate it so much. Think about it. there is a very small fraction of horror movies made that have 'good movie' components. plus, snoop dogg is in this. that's the first reason to watch it. i realize this doesn't sound like a sound argument to you people that think Traffic was a good movie, but get a life, loosen up, and watch horror movies with the expectation that they'll live up to the legacy of The Horror Movie, not some brainy flick that people superficially latch on to becuase they don't understand it.
anyway, Bones was a good horror movie because it did the job of a series of movies in one installment. usually if there is a lapse in time it's between moves and not in them.
***SPOILER*** I also appreciate how he is never vanquished by the end of the movie. It's a plot twist that is not often used. ***END***
if you liked this go rent Killer Klowns from Outer Space
The Fast and the Furious (2001)
This movie rocks
You people! This movie was the best of the summer. Everyone is slamming it for not being artistic or something, but did you expect it to be? I didn't. I expected a major testosterone rush and I got it.
FaF warranted three sittings in the theatre. It had the best cinematography since Crouching Tiger and Fight Club, and it had good special effects. If all anyone ever watched was a movie like Traffic that was an intellectual movie then he or she would not have a credible say about the quality of a movie. If you can't handle bad acting and a mediocre plot in exchange for some intense testosterone pumping action then don't come near it. What were you expecting? It's VIN DIESEL!!! Why don't you all expand your horizons a little and just enjoy a movie in all its crappiness for once.
Dawn of the Dead (1978)
Great social commentary
*******************THIS CONTAINS A SPOILER*********************
This movie was not exceptional but I really appreciated a few of the dialogs about the consumeristic attitude that even the undead have. The demise of the biker group is also attributed to the same obsession with possessions that the zombies had If you liked the message then watch Fight Club
