2 Of the best Captains
20 March 2007
This movie is one of my favorite war movies. It ranks right up there with Where Eagles Dare. To me it showed 2 of the very best at what they do, trying to out wit the other. Every time one tries a trick, the other one knows the trick. Isn't it funny how they both fell on the most basic thing, being as smart as they are? Robert Mitchum when he turned to the right too many times just as Curt Jergens said he would. If not, like he said, "We will survive until he does"! He did, so he got a torpedo in him. Then the American captain fools him by playing dead in the water and this brings the German u-boat to the surface, playing right into the Americans hands. I guess it was too late to dive and because of that the destroyer did a beam attack and got him back. This was a great cat and mouse movie where they both were great at what they do. For example, when Curt said, "he's a devil Heinie", and when he closed the triangle on his "hypethetical scenario" curt said, "Heinie the American has read my mind"! It's as good a war flick you can get. Another favorite is the movie "The Dirty Dozen", I still remember Donald Southerland's response to the soldier when he is being "The General" in an inspection and says, "Never Heard of it"! I also highly recommend Band of Brothers. If you shed a tear or two, don't feel any less of a man because I cried a lot. This was a very emotional movie.

very good movie

I am an airline employee. After seeing this movie, I studied the things that happened and how they controlled the aircraft. To turn this aircraft only to the right in a "fugoid" and to arrive exactly on course to land on runway 22 was absolutely brilliant!! Especially doing the math in his head to figure out the headings. Capt. Al Haynes was truly a great and incredibly intelligent pilot. If it wasn't for his great flying, a lot more people would have been killed. I applaud him, Denny Finch, and his whole crew on a very well job done. I hope they all will enjoy retirement and remember that a lot of people are alive today because of them.

Feelings of being lost
21 November 2006
I thought that it was a good movie. I think it shows how people feel when they are left out all of the time, just simply because they are different. Can anybody tell me the name of the song that Andrew and little Miss play on the piano in the duet? It's a beautiful song and no matter how hard I try, I can't find out. If anybody knows it e-mail me at dbw1rbw@hotmail.com. Anyway, It seemed to me that Andrew wanted nothing more than to be like everyone else. He saw the benefits of being human and wanted it. He had lots of things we don't have, such as immortality, but that wasn't enough. He was willing to give that up to be human, to "FEEL" emotions and heartache. Kind of like the blacks and the Jews feel. Everyone hates them because of their color or because of a race they were born into. That makes my blood boil! Like Martin Luther King said, Look into his/her heart, and see the content of their character. Thanks, RB Williams
