Black Mirror: Beyond the Sea (2023)
An improvement from the first 2 episodes of the season
After the first two episodes of the season that were hot garbage (the first episode had big plot holes and the second one lacked the dark technology aspect specific to the series), this episode is much more in the spirit of the show.
Why set the story in 1969 though? What's the point of setting it in the past?
Wouldn't it have made more sense to set it in the present or near future like most other episodes since we know that replica technology didn't exist back then?
Isn't the point of the show to show the double-edged aspect of technology and how it could be misused in the future?
Overall enjoyable episode with good acting and a pretty unpredictable ending.
Ancient Apocalypse (2022)
Great show that challenges conventional theories about ancient civilizations
After reading some of Hancock's books and listening to his interviews on the Joe Rogan podcast, I was really glad to hear about this show coming on Netflix.
Go listen to the interviews of him and Randall Carlson on JRE if you haven't yet. They're fascinating!
The theories presented in the series are very compelling and I'd love to hear what mainstream archaeologists have to say to refute them. I bet they would be hard-pressed to do so.
If only more archaeologists were as open-minded as Graham Hancock, we'd probably know a lot more about our past by now.
I'd really love to see a second season about psychedelics that Graham hinted about on JRE.
A Tear in the Sky (2022)
Brings nothing new to the table
The whole premise of this film is to try to get better footage of the UFOs that were filmed in 2004 near Catalina island (the famous Nimitz case with the Tic Tac UFO) by going to the same location with all kinds of expensive gear for 5 days.
Unfortunately, they were not able to capture anything conclusive. Basically just a hole in the clouds with blinking lights at night that they call a "wormhole".
All their footage is more grainy than the original FLIR videos from the Navy.
As if they filmed with an iphone through night vision goggles... Oh wait, they did.
But they still decided to follow through with the film project (to recoup some of the money they spent I guess).
They also use William Shatner's name to try to lure viewers even though he doesn't really contribute anything.
Even him, the professional actor, can't seem to manage to be excited about the footage and sound convincing when he says it's "craaazy".
I also feel like there was no need for the director to feature herself so prominently in the film.
I'm still giving it 3 stars for the project itself and the efforts that went into it. It could have turned out better if they'd been lucky, but the results they got were not conclusive enough to deserve a film, in my opinion.
If you want to watch a good documentary about UAPs, just watch The Phenomenon by James Fox.
And if you want some evidence of the existence of something else out there, just smoke DMT.
Mr. Robot: 405 Method Not Allowed (2019)
Original but unrealistic
Yeah, it's cool, you managed to make an episode without any dialogue and all but it makes for incredibly unrealistic situations. Like those cops and security guards not saying a word while chasing someone.
The scene in the server room seems incredibly forced as well.
Original, action-packed and suspenseful episode with awesome cinematography, but not very credible in my opinion.
Silk Road (2021)
A disgrace
After listening to the director's interview on Joe Rogan's podcast, it is clear that this movie would have deserved a better director who actually cares about the topic, about Ross, about his ideology and about the truth.
What's the point of mixing fictitious events and making stuff up instead of sticking to the real story?
Ross Ulbricht was never offered a 10 year plea deal, by the way.
Extraction (2020)
Typical unrealistic action packed Hollywood movie
Based on the ratings I thought this movie might be different from the usual action movies that I don't like because of their lack of realism.
I was quite disappointed and stopped watching 20 minutes in or so after that scene where the hero takes on a room with 10 or so armed guys in it and manages to kill everyone. Typical unrealistic Hollywood BS. After that I just assumed the movie would just be more of the same, an empty plot, with the hero just killing more bad guys in his mission to extract the boy...
La révélation des pyramides (2010)
The documentary is nicely done but not based on facts
If you can understand French, listen to the interviews of the author of the book the doc is based on (Jacques Grimault). You'll soon realize that he is a quack, contradicting himself and that his measurements (the presence of the meter in the construction) and his claims (the symmetry of the statue, the alignment of the sites, etc) haven't been proven and are not based on a scientific approach. They're distorting reality to reach the conclusions that suit them to make a riveting story.
Patrice Pouillard stated later on that he regretted working with him.
His next film, BAM is a must-see.
