Silent Night (2023)
Disappointing second half
Unfortunately, this movie doesn't manage to create any Christmas references at all. Anyone expecting action in the style of "Violent Night" will be bitterly disappointed here. In the first 45 minutes you get the impression that you are watching a more special and non-mainstream/standard action movie. But this positive impression vanishes completely in the second half of the movie, which follows one action sequence after another. There is not one creative kill, just dull shootouts. The movie has one special feature that carries it, especially in the first half, which is why I still found it "okay" overall.
The Pope's Exorcist (2023)
More funny than scary
I saw this movie in a sneak preview before release and have to say that even though I love watching horror movies, I found it truly awful. For one thing, the movie felt like it was at least 2 hours long. For another, and more importantly, the movie was not scary or suspenseful at any, really absolutely any, point in time. I really wonder who gets creeped out by a movie like this? Simply boring unfortunately. In addition, the special effects were sometimes insanely weak. I read that it was Russell Crowes first horror film and I hope it was also his last. It seemed more like a parody than a horror movie.
Shotgun Wedding (2022)
Why did I go to the cinema for this?
Please do not watch this movie! It has everything a movie doesn't need:
1. Strange characters in the negative sense (especially the whole kinship)
2. Bad acting and even worse jokes (for example all scenes in the pool)
3. Unnecessary brutality that simply does not fit the film
4. A superfluous slow motion, which seems to exist only to save dialogues
5. And an absolutely predictable plot at all.
So I don't quite understand why this film is being released in theaters. The most positive thing about the movie is that it's not super boring, but that's about it.... a good looking Jennifer Lopez is just not enough.
Beast (2022)
Predictable movie from first to last second
Everything in this film is 0815 and transparent from front to back. There are no twists and turns. The movie gives you exactly what you expect after the trailer. Unfortunately, the CGI is also bad.
Thor: Love and Thunder (2022)
Some Umbrella-Academy Vibes and a magnificent soundtrack
The film is special in a way and certainly not for everyone, as it is very humorous and even gets silly at times. The style of the film reminded me of Umbrella Academy, Deadpool or The Suicide Squad, as these films also combine humor with violence. If you like these kinds of movies, you'll love this one too. Also, there's no question that the film's soundtrack is killer! The story is not spectacular but absolutely solid. The film doesn't quite come close to Thor 3, but as a Marvel, Deadpool, Umbrella Academy and Suicide Squad fan, I really liked the film overall!
Dog (2022)
You can do it, but if you don't, you miss nothing
The film is absolutely fine. There are some funny moments and quite cool jokes. Overall, the story is quite predictable and nothing special, but you can watch the movie quite well and not get bored.
Arrival (2016)
Slow narrative pace and inconsistent plot
I'm really sorry, but I don't understand why this movie is so well rated. It's extremely drawn out and the individual plot parts don't fit together as a whole. The beginning and end of the film fit together well and are quite interesting, but the middle part can be skipped completely, as it is totally replaceable. If the alien plot was replaced with a non-science-fiction plot, it would be an interesting family drama, but here, many topics are unnecessarily touched upon. In addition, many questions remain unanswered and the decoding of the alien language signs has not become comprehensible. How could the scientists figure out what the circles mean? Just because they write down a word in Latin characters and it is responded to with a circle, no conclusions can be drawn about the meaning. All in all just overrated...
Moonfall (2022)
Finish the movie after 100 minutes and I give a 7
I really liked the first 100 minutes or so and the movie looked like a typical doomsday movie, which I generally like. But then the movie started to overdramatize and veered off. From unnecessary and completely baseless antagonists to overdramatic action scenes with cars to the explanation of the whole catastrophe. The movie got worse by the minute, which doesn't apply to the dialogues, which were relatively weak and full of platitudes right at the beginning. The film drags on very long, but at least there were quite good images of the world's demise.
