Hellraiser (2022)
6/10
Casting is so important
9 October 2022
Had it not been for 2 things this would have been an acceptable entry into the Hellraiser family. Those 2 things being 1. The weird lips and hair of the lead actress. 2. The costume design for the lead actress. To be fair her acting was ok but there was just something jarring about her overall look. Also, out of all the people who could have been taken I rather wished it had been her character. She had little to no redeemable qualities. She was week and self-pitying, not qualities that I like in my heroes. Overall the movie itself was good the lighting, cinematography, sets, pacing, dialogue and effects and came together really rather well. I would not be unhappy if the director did another Hellraiser but without Riley who I had to force myself to accept.

No sleep tonight
9 December 2021
So, I thought I'll just watch the first episode then get to bed a somewhat reasonable hour for a change, that is not now going to happen.

Already I can tell this show will be a joy to watch. As others have already pointed out in the comments the writing, acting, directing, pace, music, setting etc, etc are all much above the usual standard broadcast, streamed or downloaded to and by us. This show is a bright and beguiling treat. Now, dear friends, on to episode 2.

Evil: C Is for Cannibal (2021)
Season 2, Episode 13

This episode spoiled the whole show!

Warning: Spoilers
I can put up with how this show treats religion, not just the Christian religion but the whole idea of religion and religious belief but this episode went down the wrong path.

David on the evening of his ordination succumbs to temptation right after taking confession from Kristen, in a truly deep and touching scene, right after she has solemnly sworn to deny temptation. No, I'm afraid that just doesn't fly for me.

The confessional scene was awesome, powerful and deep. The immediate actions subsequent to this are unforgivable. If the showrunner wants David to not be a priest in the 3rd season then just have him not go through with his ordination.

Kristen up until her confession was an unpunished murderer supported by the police and her psychiatrist. The psychiatrist I can take of course but the police, no, no way. She truly repented during confession and it was well played by Katja Herbers but then to make that confession worthless in the very next breath is downright pathetic.

I had promised myself during this season that if, I could see this coming, something like this happened I would not follow season 3 (no doubt I actually will watch it if only to see how this is resolved).

Why treat religious experience with such contempt? During the whole two seasons that it has thus far run there have been no real exorcisms. The church, through David, has not helped anyone religiously or otherwise in fact. I'm not looking for religious apologetics but I am asking that at least some credence, credit and respect is given to the institute of religion that this show seeks to use for its basic premise.

This army is doomed!
29 August 2021
Ok, I know this is a YA tv show but Oh My Giddy Aunt this is brutal to watch.

This is the worst, most ill-disciplined army ever committed to the screen big or small. The unit we are meant to see as the heroines are undoubtedly the most selfish people you could ever not wish to come across. Obviously anyone connected with this show has never served in the armed forces because the way these privates talk to their superior officers is never punished.

There is a total lack of selflessness but a barrow load of me-me-me in it. The mission and training is always thrown away because of one or other of the heroines feeling.

This army, this unit would not last five minutes into their first engagement.

I'm just about to finish the first season, once begun I go to the end (not at all like those 3), and if season 2 turns out that the witches have to fight against the "civilians", normal people, I will be so happy to root for the non magic users. Please make it so.
