BioShock Infinite (2013)
Amazing
I have been playing this game for eight hours now and love it. I may be biased because the first two are amongst my favorite games, but I think the reviews from around the web support my feelings towards the game.
The graphics are beautiful, and my computer handles them well with no lag or bug issues so far.
The story is complex for a game, and the characters, especially the main two are deeper than the usual game characters without getting in the way of the action. It is also much longer than the last games.
The fighting is similar to the other Bio-Shock games, but still has its own unique weapons, like the sky-hook, and different power ups and upgrades, so we have the familiarity of the old games, but still something new and fresh.
I can't wait to play this a few more times at least. Its so good. I give it an easy 10 out of 10!
Dredd (2012)
The Best Moie I have Seen In A Long Time
After seeing the original Dredd as a child, I really wasn't expecting much of this one, but man was I wrong. I have seen this twice now at the movies, and as a poor university student that it really saying something. The 3D ticket price is really worth it, especially in the Slow-mo scenes. I laughed reading one review where they were called overused and and overexposed (lighting wise). I couldn't disagree more, I thought they were beautiful and disgusting at the same time, it really allows the audience to get into the criminal's head. Being 3D only where I live, I was a bit hesitant about the film as I often get headaches watching 3D but even after the second viewing I felt fine.
The acting is excellent, Karl Urban made the most of his character and did not let the half face helmet get in the way. Anderson was a fun character, not too feminine, being a rookie she had some moments when she is not in her element, but there was no helpless (useless) feel to this character. The criminals were also convincing, and I found it funny to see Cersi (game of thrones) play the main villain. No part was either over or under acted, rather each role was pretty much perfectly cast.
The sets and special effects were brilliant. I loved the feel of the city and Peach Trees, the grit and grime is exactly what I expect in this sort of film, but it was not over done either. The effects looked pretty realistic to me, no low budget effects to be found in this film. Some of the ways people die are also hilarious (for those with a slightly sicker, more horror-centric sense of humor such as myself). The action was also edge of your seat stuff, not overdone with near super powers but everyone moved like humans do, and relied on gun power (oh yeah).
All in all, a perfect movie, I wouldn't change a thing in it, and I really hope if they do make a sequel they make it just as good. And way worth the money, in fact I think I will watch it again next week.
Game of Thrones: Valar Morghulis (2012)
Amazing as always
I don't know what the disapproving reviewers were watching but it must not have been this, or they just wouldn't know good TV if it smacked them in the face... with a hammer...
This is another wonderful season ending, leaving me wanting for more, the graphics are spectacular, on par with any major Hollywood Blockbuster. The scrip is superb, after each sequence and scene change I wanted to go back and find out what happens next, but would as quickly become immersed in what was happening now. The acting is wonderful as ever, each character makes you hate them, love them, feel sympathy as the director chooses. The Mise-en-scene is also excellent, everything from the decor to the costumes, lighting and so on make you believe this world is there and these events are unfolding before your eyes. And the cliff-hanger I feel is more interesting than last seasons, we are getting closer to the really big events! I want the third season now! But I guess reading the books will have to do.
