Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2007)
The best film!
I've been to see this 3 times now at the cinema and even though it doesn't follow the original story of Sweeney Todd i think the twist at the end is great and it all comes together really nicely. The connection between Sweeney and Lovett is also made really clear and personally i think this is one of the best i have seen for a long time, even better than some in love story type films. Depp is perfect for this part and his singing is brilliant, how he enchants her at the end into thinking he has forgiven is so sad yet beautiful and of course Carter does a great job as being cocky loved-up Lovett and is so very believable. Hope to see them work together again and do many more horror movies!!
Misery (1990)
Misery
I have watched Misery many times over the past few years and still look away at the sledgehammer/foot scene. Nobody else could have played the role as well as Kathy Bates did and there is something likable about her even after everything. There was something that made you go 'awww' when she died and feel a little bit sympathetic for her. Well....I did anyway! I did think that there were some very atmospheric bits left out of the film that were in the book (even thought it isn't right to compare) such as the soapy, soupy water drinking scene. However the film is very well done and some of the shots where she is in the room with Paul when he is peeing and also the kiss-blowing were made quite sickening after all she did to him. I have also just helped backstage with the stage show of Misery which is more like the book than the film as there are only the main two characters throughout the whole play, but it does always manage to hold the audience and the best speeches such as the 'Rocketman' one and the part where she tells him she doesn't like swearing were included which brought a bit of humour to it. One of Stephen Kings best stories and film adaptations made even better by Kathy Bates.
Through the Dragon's Eye (1989)
A wonderful, colourful show
Through the Dragon's Eye is part of the Look and Read series featuring three very different personality children who enter a mural they have painted on their school wall. There they meet dragon Gorwen, mouse Rodey and the secondary coloured Keepers. This was originally made to help teach first school children to read, rhyme and recognise colours but it has become a sort of cult show. The villain Charn was personally the most impressive character in the show for me, and it was a shame they kept to the rule of baddies losing. The children are sent as they have to fix the Veetacore which powers Pelamar, and the ending is rather sad when they have to return home. Definitely one to watch, whether learning or a fan of fantasy and furry animals like the cheeky Widgets. Full of surprises and definitely a one to watch whether you're 9 or 99.
