Napoleon (2023)
There's only one Maximus
The cinematography is as excellent as was expected. The battle sequences are well choreographed and brutally realistic. The performances of the actors and actresses portraying the characters were above par as well. However, the character development is missing completely. There's not a single likable character in the entire film. I could not prevent myself from comparing this film to Ridley Scott's best work, Gladiator, but it does not even come close to that caliber of excellence. I found myself departing the cinema with the strong desire to return home and watch Gladiator so that I could cleanse my palate of Napoleon.
Antrum: The Deadliest Film Ever Made (2018)
Creepy flick
Enjoyed this creepy found footage/mockumentary a good bit.
The cinematography was beautiful. I found the filters that were utilized gave the atmosphere of the film a real creepy, classic film vibe.
The landscape was a character unto itself, as was the sound design and music.
The special effects and creatures were pretty decently down for a low budget film, with an obvious and humorous exception.
The acting delivered by the 2 leads was on point. The boy's facial expressions were really great and the actress's emotions felt real.
As the viewer, it's easy to get sucked into the anxiety and paranoia of the story of you allow it to happen.
Ang-ma-reul bo-at-da (2010)
I Saw The Dummy
I Saw The Devil started off pretty intensely and proceeded rather quickly downhill from there. The main character has insanely stupid motivations. Maybe it has more to do with the Korean culture. I just do not understand why he went about things the way he did. Over and over, I kept thinking to myself "why would he do that?" I thought the finale of the story might enlighten me on the decisions made throughout the plot. Nope, not even a little bit. This film could only be rated so highly because of the extreme brutality and on that note, I am not really impressed. There are so many gore filled movies nowadays.
My Best Friend's Exorcism (2022)
Don't understand the hate
I remember finishing the book in a day. It was an original, well-paced and fun read that I just could not put down until every page was turned. Sometimes that does not always translate to the screen, but I still found the film to be quite entertaining. The book had some pretty heavy, dark scenes and I was surprised that the movie did as well. I figured it would be presented more as a comedy than a horror film, playing more to mainstream viewers. However, there were some genuinely creepy aspects to the mostly dramatic script. It's such an original concept that it may be too unusual for those who haven't read the novel.
Nope (2022)
Not a horror movie. Maybe scary to a 4 year old.
Reminded me a little of Super 8...except I actually enjoyed Super 8 and would watch it again. The dialogue didn't make sense, part of the movie seemed like a separate story entirely, and the "alien" looks like a cross between a cowboy hat and some trash bags.
Pig (2021)
Not a mystery or "thriller"
This movie bored the hell outta me & my 20 year old son...and we like Nicholas Cage. There is nothing thrilling about the movie unless preparing and cooking gourmet food is thrilling to you. The pig is cute. It's not in the movie too long. It's not as advertised.
Army of the Dead (2021)
The most fun I've had watching a zombie movie...
This was the most fun I've had watching a zombie movie...since Zombieland released. I'm not sure what movie these people giving low ratings watched, but I absolutely loved Army Of The Dead. Lots of action, zombies, explosions, and blood. Extremely entertaining!
Braven (2018)
Kind of ridiculous
It was somewhat entertaining and while I like the actors, the acting was bad. The characters made ridiculous decisions that didn't make any sense. Mistakes throughout as well, such as the police dispatcher calling officer down when it wasn't reported yet. It's interesting but pretty flawed. Bad writing. And what's with the nature scenes from obviously different areas? Probably deserves an even lesser rating, to be honest.
Small Crimes (2017)
The story wasn't bad but the acting...
The acting was actually a disappointment. I was surprised by that since I'd seen Coster-Waldau in several roles and thought he was pretty good in each of them. I saw a review that said the acting was good in this title, but I must've seen a different movie. If you're interested in a good story and good acting, watch Blue Ruin or Shimmer Lake or The Devil All The Time. Those movies were all superior to this film and also available on Netflix.
Creep (2014)
Feel like this was a waste of time
Seen this story before. Usually, that's not a bad thing...but the whole lead up, pretty much the entire movie was childish and slow, except for the ending. But since the ending was predictable and in no way truly surprising, I'd say skip this one unless you absolutely have nothing else to watch. Honestly, probably deserves less than 4/10.
After Hours (1985)
What the hell am I watching?
This is the worst movie I've ever seen. Maybe if you're from NY you just get it. I don't. It was a challenge to see if we could finish the movie without cutting it off. Not entertaining at all.
