Supernatural: And Then There Were None (2011)
Nothing Original, but Intriguing
(Very) Minor Spoilers Below: This episode continues the story started in Like A Virgin, where the Mother of All (now known as Eve) is free from purgatory and roaming the Earth. We find out more about her and her plot. Meanwhile, Sam, Dean, and Bobby are investigating a man who says he blacked out while he bludgeoned his family to death with a sledgehammer. While there, they run into Rufus, Samuel, and Gwen who are investigating as well. Obviously, Dean, Sam, and Bobby don't like Samuel because of his actions in Caged Heat, leading to some of the mistrust generated in this episode. During the investigation, the episode turns into a combination of Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation (2004) and John Carpenter's The Thing (1982). If you've seen those, it's the creature from ST2 and the blood test from JCTT. If not, I'm not going to ruin the surprise. I did enjoy the episode and I'm glad they ended Samuel's storyline as well as finally continuing Eve's storyline. Maybe now they can have more episodes where they have to kill creatures while tracking down Eve and trying to figure out how to kill her (or maybe just do a repeat of season 5 and send her back to purgatory).
Saw V (2008)
The Traps of Saw 5
Before I start, I did enjoy this movie, it's nothing new. I do want to warn you that there are A LOT of SPOILERS below, though I won't spoil some of the big ones. Once past the pendulum trap with Seth, this movie starts basically where Saw 3/4 left off, with Strahm barging into Jigsaw's death-room, killing Jeff, and being locked in by Hoffman. This leads directly to the trap with Strahm's head inside of a glass box which is filling up with water. As he's the one of the main characters, there's no need to tell you he survived, I just won't tell how. Anyway, Hoffman "saves" Jeff's daughter and Strahm is found and taken to the hospital. A press conference is given and it's revealed Jigsaw is dead and Hoffman's given a promotion. Yet Strahm suspects Hoffman and Hoffman knows it, and now it's a race between the two to either kill or arrest the other. Meanwhile, five people are chained together in a room. They have one minute to unlock the collars before they are decapitated. Once they escape (with only four) they're locked in another room which will explode in a minute unless they find the keys that will let three of them hide in side rooms. Then, they must escape another room in three minutes by grounding live wires in a bathtub; unfortunately the wires don't reach and they have to find a way to make them reach. Finally, the last room gives the remaining two 15 minutes to unlock the door by filling a jar with 10 ounces of blood, yet a human can only give 8 before dying. Now, we see Hoffman framing Strahmfor being Jigsaw's accomplice and Strahm deducing how Hoffman became Jigsaw's accomplice (through a series of flashbacks, of course) and finally tracking him to a room with a glass box filled with broken glass. A tape tells him to enter the box and, though he'll be hurt, he will survive. He doesn't, and he tricks Hoffman into entering the box, which Strahm slams shut, locking Hoffman inside. Hoffman looks at him and smiles as the door to the room also locks, trapping them both inside. Yet, something now occurs that makes up the last few minutes, but it is a "major" twist that usually happens, but I won't tell you what does happen. Like I said above, this movie is nothing new. You have an obsessed agent tracking down the killer (Saw I), a bunch of people trapped in a house (Saw II), Jigsaw taking an apprentice and teaching him the Jigsaw ways of saving someone (Saw III), and finally, a convoluted path for someone to have to trust someone else (Saw IV). And I'll say this too, apparently Rigg is dead, though we don't see him; there is once again no mention of Dr. Lawrence, so we don't know if he could still be alive (I doubt it, though). 6/10 stars.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (2007)
Great Ending to a Story
Pirates 3 has a great combination of effects and stunts, along with an outstanding cast and crew, and the story allows it to tie up loose ends while allowing debate among fans as to what will happen next to various characters. By the time the Endeavor is destroyed, most of the loose ends are covered, with the fact that the pirates are once again free to roam the seas and the Royal Navy has been defeated, along with Davy Jones and his crew. Yet, we are still left with the question of whether or not Jack Sparrow, once again left to sail the seas in a dinghy, will find the greatest treasure of them all. Also, what will happen to Will and Elizabeth's relationship now that he is bound to the Dutchman forever, but is married to Elizabeth with a son. Many people might say that these are story lines to be picked up in Pirates 4, but I believe that they are left intentionally for fans to discuss and debate about and wouldn't actually be up to being the basis of a whole other movie. Though I would like to see Jack and the rest of the cast come back for more, I like where the trilogy stands now and believe that a fourth movie may end up being overkill. I enjoyed this movie a lot and the only reason it didn't get 10 stars is the fact that it was a continuation of Dead Man's Chest, which was still good but didn't measure up to number 1 or 3. I recommend this to anyone looking to watch a great movie.
