Memoria (2021)
Ummm.. need to re-watch
Had to think a lot after viewing. Still don't know what to say about this film. You can feel pleasant breeze in every shot. Beautifully shot is the least I can tell about this movie. Other than that, not sure if I'm qualified to rate this film. Uncle Boonmie was pilot film for me from director Weerasethakul; it was relatively easy to follow. Can't say the same for Memoria. I believe I know the plot. Yet, I can't even tend to describe this film. Yaay! I can't spoil others even if I want to. Nothing can be extracted from my telling. Ahhh. I'm unsettled. Single viewing won't do justice. I need to re-watch this film, but, sometime in the future. Hope, I'll have some Memoria about Memoria till then.
Di jiu tianchang (2019)
Air of melancholy yet soothing
I vividly remember senior year of my high-school: I was tasked to present the solutions to over population. I had come up with harsh suggestions: permanent contraceptive measures, extraterrestrial settlement and many more... What surprised my teacher which I didn't realize back then was the cruelest one: One Child Policy. Through mesmerizing acting and outstanding direction, this film artistically delivers the experience of losing a child and sorrows of incapability of bearing a child. Gut-punching yet soothing. This is what cinema is to me; this is what cinema has to be.
9 Songs (2004)
Songs and porn don't go well together
The film lacked identity although it may lead one to believe it's courageous trying to do impossible: blending porn with songs. The film should have focused solely on songs (which were okay and can be subjective) or porn(abysmal here). It would be amazing if someone actually checked if there were nine songs.
The Grand Budapest Hotel (2014)
As the name suggests - "Grand"
One can say it's like watching children playing in the playground. Playful, colourful, immaculate. And of course beautifully shot. Joyful score perfectly complemented every shot and scene playfully. Wes Anderson's masterpiece.
Gladiator (2000)
Abysmal combat choreography spoils the masterpiece
Ridley Scott had it all until the actors couldn't perform their own stunt and had to opt for horrible quick cuts. The actors were great though.
