House of Darkness (2022)
Expected better...
A huge Justin Long fan here so I will watch anything that he deems worth his while to attach his name to. But gosh, this was so disappointing. It was easy to know within minutes the genre of where it was heading but it never really gained any type of steam and grit. It fell completely flat and it seemed like it was leading up to so much more and a few scenes just didn't really flow; the feeling like there was something so close in it's grasp that could have made it blossom. But sadly, this film just didn't get there for me. I still do not feel like it was a waste of my time and I'll still continue to be a Justin Long fan!
The Blackwell Ghost (2017)
A bit creepy
Gotta say that as I went to bed after watching The Blackwell Ghost that I heard noises and was generally very unsettled. I'm watching The Blackwell Ghost 2 but the interior of the house reminds me of the exact set up of Bad Ben. Anyone else notice?
Fear Street: 1994 (2021)
Take a chance on this
After watching all 3 episodes my overall take was that I liked it and I judge that on if I have wasted hours of my life that I can't get back. I think those hours were worth it, sort of. Fear Street one, 1994: it took several tries to get through this. I found it cheesy and a Stranger Things/Stephen King knock off (or was Stranger Things a Fear Street knock off? Hmm?) but I did finally get through it hoping it would get better and it did because I kept going with two. Part two, 1978: just my era. Teenage camp, getting in trouble, looking for boys to get in trouble with etc with but now I felt this episode was Friday the 13th meets Jack Torrance meets Stranger Things. But I started to get into it a bit more so I kept going. Sorry, the music draws me in! But I found 1978 to have a bit of a deeper story line and character depth. Part three, 1666: I love old timey stuff and witchcraft and witch hunts so I was much more drawn to this episode but satan-y stuff is not really my thing but I was already deeply invested. The series does continue to channel Stranger Things so I found it hard to separate the two and The Shining score in the background at times was too much to handle. But I did enjoy this episode. Did I love it 100%? No way. Maybe in the 80-85% range. Maybe because I worked in a mall in the 80's and felt all the love that the mall offers after it is closed. But overall if you have some hours to kill I would recommend this as decent entertainment and with very little precious time to spare in the realm of hours of life, I don't feel like those hours were ultimately wasted.
