Terminator: Dark Fate (2019)
Extremely disappointing...
This has nothing to do with the original first ones. It looks like a bad copy without the essence of the first ones... The story is very slim and brings nothing new but deja vu. The new characters create a kind of non sense when you watch this one after the 5 others from the franchise. The last one (n5) left an open door to another future and when you arrive to this movie, the story is just coming from nowhere.
Furthermore, I had heard that M. Furlong was back to play John Connor. I was naturally expecting him fighting with his mother in duo or at least as one of the main characters. There were so much open stories possible with him as an adult. Without him, the story is even more meaningless. Having him come back and be the main character of 'Dark Fate' would have made all the difference.
Vortex, l'aube de la souveraineté (2021)
A new genre of indie film about spiritual awakening and our conception of reality
I saw this movie 2 years ago. This deals with spiritual awakening, in a sci-fi style mixing real pictures and special effects. This is not just for entertainment and testifying any abilities mastering special effects, there are messages to catch into the movie, which makes it unique and of particular relevance. It brings reflexion on our existence (who we are and what we are doing here), but also on our inner power and our ability to question our reality. This is for teens and adults, it is inspirational, without shocking horror scenes with blood etc. That's in french language with subtitles in different languages.
I watched interviews of Michel Rousseau on french medias who have shown an interest for his work. He directed this colossal work alone with a total budget of 10.000euros, every nights generating few seconds of digital work during 4 years, which is why it is so atypical (and quite unbelievable!). Musics are also an original work and tailored to each scenes. He literally put all his heart into this movie. Just for this, it really deserves more than 10/10. When I see all these Hollywood movies with their indecent budgets for a nearly blank plot and so much few of them bringing reflexion about anything... Perhaps a new film movement has just been born. Perhaps indie movies will save the art of Cinema !
I am impatient to watch his future film he's working on right now, it is very, very promising!
The Prestige (2006)
One of the best movies I have ever seen
I watched this movie only 3-4 years ago, without knowing the story, just this was about magicians and that's all. What a surprise... the first time, I didn't even remember if there was music into the movie, because I was so absorbed by the plot... plot extremelly well brought, minutes after minutes you discover a piece of the puzzle. This isn't just about magic and tricks at all, but about obsessions and secrets, and how they impact your life. I had to watch the movie several times to have a different understanding of the story and the characters, like an onion skin, each time a new layer. The ambience, colours and textures are beautiful, and the music links everything together in a very subtle manner. If you don't know this movie yet, watch it !
