Nymphomaniac: Vol. I (2013)

Braver scenes, but the story didn't impress

Definitely a bolder film and I liked that. Unfortunately, that's pretty much it. I didn't quite find much more in it. It wasn't bad at all, and it was certainly interesting at times, but I'm not somehow finished or downright fulfilled by the ending or anything. It just didn't really grab me with the story, but it had its good moments. It's hard to say who I'd recommend this to. If you're looking for some sexuality in a movie, you're probably welcome, but otherwise I didn't think it offered anything particularly interesting. It wasn't bad. I'm repeating myself, but I wasn't too impressed, and what I liked most was that the film wasn't afraid to show nudity, but otherwise I wasn't too impressed. For me, a slightly better average film.

One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest (1975)

I loved the effect Randle had on others

At the beginning it was pretty cool, but after a while it started to pick up steam and became more and more interesting for me. Jack Nicholson pulls this movie off. I can tell. I don't know much to add without giving too much away. There was a little surprise here, which of course I expected, but still cool, but just how to rate this movie I don't know. It was just interesting for me to watch. How all the characters behave. What kind of influence Randle has on them. I got caught up and entertained more and more from a certain point on, but you might not get caught up and be bored the whole time. I found it appealing, entertaining and enjoyable. For me, a great film.

Eastern Promises (2007)

A great crime drama unafraid of nudity and brutality

For me, a great crime show. The storyline is interesting and I'm glad the film wasn't afraid to be more daring. I think grittier scenes belong in this genre. Whether nudity or brutality. Add to that a plot that made it even better. I'm a fan of mafia movies, so I like either, but I still think it will appeal to fans of the crime genre overall. For me, a great movie that entertained me with its mafia theme, story, and twist. Viggo Mortensen helped it along as well. He kept me entertained and for me the film had a lot of pull. All in all, a very successful crime film that I can recommend to fans of the genre.

The Gamechangers (2015 TV Movie)

A good film, just probably not quite based on reality

I've had fun and love the Grand Theft Auto series, so I'm excited to see how the game has evolved. The only question that remains is what all was real and what wasn't. I enjoyed it that way, but who knows what is real and what is not. If you don't mind some false information, probably a cool movie, but if you want reality, I'd probably rather avoid it. The thing is, it's mentioned at the beginning of the movie that some scenes were edited to make it more interesting, but the question is which ones. I don't know. How true this film is in the final act I don't know. Either way, I had fun. I did. So the biggest hitch is that it probably wasn't quite like that, but it's good that it's mentioned at the beginning and I enjoyed the finale and had a good time.

Dune: Part Two (2024)

Great sequel to the first film

A lot more desert sequences and a bit more action, but I wouldn't say there was too much of it. There was also a lot of room for story scenes. I enjoyed a lot the first half of the movie where the story continued, as the first movie ended pretty open-ended. So I was glad it picked up nicely here. But when it took on a different dimension was about halfway through the film. The first one was that it picked up from the previous film and there was some action here and there and that was something to watch. I enjoyed it. I'm sure Hans Zimmer's music helped a lot. It made some of the scenes a lot better. From the second half onwards it was more story driven. Closing what was at the end of the first part and just moving on with a new bad guy. Towards the end it started to get more interesting with the plot. There was a reveal that I won't spoil, but I was pleasantly surprised. All of this was, of course, really nice to watch. Beautiful locations. I believe it must have been a blast in IMAX, but I still enjoyed it very much and don't regret spending the money for Dolby Atmos here. In short, I would say the first half is such a closure of the open one and from the second a deeper story, which still spices up the action with great music. For me a hit. I'm not as done with it though as most people I see rating this way. Anyway, I liked it a lot and I definitely want to go see the next installment to find out how the story goes, but mostly because of the nice spectacle with the deluxe soundtrack. This is one of those movies that are great in the cinema.

Despicable Me 3 (2017)

Why not?

I'd put it this way. Why not? It wasn't the worst, but it wasn't the best. I'd say it was the worst of all the episodes, but I don't think it was downright bad. Maybe a little unnecessary, but I had so much fun. It went by fast. I was quite entertained by the villain. The previous episodes were better, but like I said, it wasn't terrible. I thought it was okay, and I think it's a good cartoon that doesn't disappoint, but it doesn't offend either. At the time of this writing, a fourth installment has been announced and I mean, I don't know what they'll do there since this one was so much weaker, but I still think it's good. All in all, a cool movie and a good break.

Man on Fire (2004)

Great movie from the second half

That's a pretty big deal to me. Right from the beginning it grabbed me with its cuts and colours. Such a good filter, I guess. It was a good fit for me. I liked that a lot. The first half of the film kind of story driven and more of a relationship building, but from the second half onwards there was some action which I enjoyed and then soon it was over and I was satisfied. I liked how it ended and overall I think it was a great action movie, but that's only from the second half of the movie onwards. Not much boom boom at the beginning but I didn't mind. It gradually built up and from a certain point on I thought it was really good and suspenseful. For crime fans I think it's great. For me, a great movie. Oh, and the soundtrack wasn't bad at times either.

Taken 3 (2014)

An even weaker sequel packed with good action again

For me worse than the previous part, but again a load of good action, which I enjoyed and so I am satisfied. The first episode was something new and exciting and that was great and probably this shouldn't have been a series, but never mind. The second episode was worse but still good in my opinion and this one was unfortunately even weaker in my opinion, but so action packed fine and if I wanted to see some of the shooting, awesome. Action movie. Not much more. The story didn't impress me much. For me it's above average. If you liked the previous one, this one will probably be good too. For fans of only the first film, I would rather not recommend it. I'm satisfied. I got some cool action that went by pleasantly fast. That's all. Nothing less.

Taken 2 (2012)

Weaker sequel

I would say this right from the start. Unnecessary. A rather pointless sequel that doesn't live up to the quality of the previous one. That one brought us something new and grabbed our attention right away. On the one hand, I had a lot of fun here too, and I wasn't bored. Certainly not. The action was great. Pretty good. It went by very quickly, but it just ended early and I was left with the feeling that that's it? It didn't have the wow effect that the previous film had. It's not as interesting anymore. I think it's a cool action movie, but that's about it. Weaker sequel and we could have done without it, but for action fans why not. This was again very good and I enjoyed it very much. If I want to see some bad guy shootouts with a hero who destroys them, why not. A good film, made worse by the fact that it's not really new anymore and that it doesn't match the quality of the previous one and is simply a sequel that didn't need to be. On the one hand, though, I had fun and the action was great, so there's that.

In Time (2011)

Great idea

What attracted me to the film was the idea. It grabbed my attention. That's what I found interesting and kept me going until the end. The movie itself was otherwise fine. It went by quickly. I had a good time. Occasionally there was some action, which I enjoyed. It was a cool spectacle, but one that pulled at me with its idea. I think it's a good movie, but what as I've said before pulls it to another level for me is the idea. It just grabbed me. That's what appealed to me. I found that interesting and it wasn't super long and I enjoyed it. I think it's a great movie. For science fiction fans I believe super. I don't really like Sci-Fi either, but I was intrigued by this one. I liked it. I think the idea or the idea in short is good. I think it's a great movie. I can recommend it.

Fifty Shades Freed (2018)

Better than the second film in my opinion

I thought the previous episode was pretty weak. This one didn't appeal to me. But I thought this one was better. Some people might find it quite crazy, because it went from erotica to quite an action movie in places, but for me it was a nice refresher, because I didn't enjoy the previous one, but this one went by faster and was better that way in my opinion. The moments that were so suspenseful made me hooked and so in the end I'm satisfied. I'll put it this way. I think the first episode is the best. I think the second one should never have been made. I thought it was a little unnecessary. But the third one, especially towards the end, I thought was quite suspenseful and I liked the ending. That was good. The ending of the trilogy was good. Above average film for me. Fans of the series might be interested. I wouldn't recommend it to others. I thought it was pretty good and the ending was good.

Fifty Shades Darker (2017)

A weak sequel

Well, I didn't really get it. Not much of a sequel for me, unfortunately. I wasn't even all that done with the first one, but it wasn't bad in my opinion and it was pretty good, but this one didn't appeal to me. Erotica again, of course. Whether better or worse is hard to say. But you get that again. The story did grab me more in the previous film though. I found it more interesting there. Here, in my eyes, not so much. For fans of erotica, probably great. For the average viewer, probably not so much. I thought it was average. As the movie ended, I didn't feel any kind of intensity or anything. Nothing to tempt me to watch the next one. The first one I thought okay after it was over. Pretty good. Why not. Here I'm like, no. I'm not enjoying this. The first one was something new, so it was interesting, but this one didn't grab me anymore. I'd only recommend it to fans of erotica and especially fans of the series. They'll probably enjoy it. For me, an average film.

Terrifier 2 (2022)

Violence again and a little bit better

I'm happy. I really liked the first one so I was looking forward to the second one and it was great. I thought it was a little bit better than the previous one. The brutality was again and this time it was even a level higher, so really cool and I enjoyed it. It was a good carnage show. Story-wise it wasn't great, which was the catch with the previous installment as well, and this time it may not be a miracle, but it's still much better in my opinion. In short, what's better here is that it's more brutal. The bloody scenes of full on violence got me through the first one and the scenes of full on blood with violence are here again and I'd say even better, so I'm happy with that. The clown himself did not disappoint again. I'm very entertained. I'm really pleased. The film won me over. An enjoyable horror spectacle where you can quite switch off. Just watch the violence and enjoy it. I think it's a great sequel and I hope there's a third one. I don't know how it would raise the bar. The violence here has already been improved. Maybe just some more better story and a great horror movie would be in my eyes. The second installment for me improves on the aforementioned violence and I enjoyed that. Super brutal spectacle. I can recommend it to fans of brutality.

The Pianist (2002)

An amazing biographical art

For me, really quality. It caught me a lot, because I like the theme of war in movies and this was excellent. It was also helped by the fact that it is a story based on a true event. It was a great build-up. It was great at the beginning, but then it kept going and from about halfway through it really grabbed me and I was really entertained. The last moments of the film were a blast. Suspenseful, I'd say slightly moving and simply gripping. In my eyes, this is an amazing film. I think it's a great choice for war movie fans, but don't expect an action movie. It might even catch the attention of people who aren't into war movies that much. It's not about the action. In short, a good quality biopic. I thought it was great.

Martyrs (2008)

The last half hour improved the film

I was hooked right away. The violence grabbed my attention. That's what I like when a movie is bolder and not afraid to show some gritty scenes. What I didn't expect is that it would build up. It was good right from the start and I thought it would maintain a similar level for the rest of the movie, but it didn't. As the film went on it got better and better and towards the end of the last half hour or so it got really cool and more importantly interesting. I won't spoil it. I really liked it towards the end of the movie. I think it's a good movie. I don't know who to recommend it to. I don't think anybody would want to watch this. If you like violence and blood and that sort of thing, then you might like it. Pretty good for me, and one of the best brutal films I've seen in a while. It was helped especially by the last half hour, which I thought was really good.

A Man Apart (2003)

A hit to my taste

Let me put it this way. It's right up my alley. Maybe it wasn't a very breathtaking story. Maybe it had its flaws, but I liked it. I like gangsters, drugs, and violent crime themes like that, so I was excited. I was hooked. Especially towards the end, I liked it a lot. I thought the action was good. Like I said, it hit my taste. If you like such crime movies with gangsters, you might also like it. I speak for myself. I liked it a lot. I think it's a great crime show. It is possible that I had so called rose colored glasses or simply a different view of this film. I didn't see what was wrong with it. I got a criminal with drugs and action, which I like, so I was satisfied. So I only recommend it to fans of this kind of gangster genre. Maybe someone will be interested. I got hooked and for me it was great.

The Breakfast Club (1985)

The variety of characters made it fun

It wasn't bad. It went by fast. Even though it's in one place most of the time, I had fun. I enjoyed how the characters interacted with each other. Each had something and was interesting in a different way. It went by quickly and was a nice break for me. Not great for me, but not bad either. I think it's good. A nice show. For comedy fans? Hard to say. Probably most appealing to teenagers. I don't know. I had a good time, and like I said, it went by fast, so it's a good movie. It's just the characters that pull it off. Everyone was a little different. Maybe that made it that much more interesting. I don't know how else to explain that being in the same room almost all the time for an hour and a half was pretty fun.

Mean Girls 2 (2011 TV Movie)

Previous movie was better

Well, I'll say this right off the bat. One was better. It started out pretty good, but then it got a little worse. I guess it's just not as original as the previous film. I felt like towards the end it kind of caught a fast pace and then all of a sudden boom, it's over and I kind of wasn't as fulfilled. I had fun, yeah, but I really don't think it's up to the previous one. I thought that was a cool idea and it was fun and it still is here, but it just felt a little bit of the same old same old, even though it had good moments. I rather don't recommend it and if you want pretentious princesses in a comedy, I recommend number one.

Mean Girls (2004)

Stupid, but fun

Awesome 😂 That was a comedy I enjoyed. Plastics totally cool 💅💄 Exactly the kind of thing I've been looking for and I'm really cool with it. I got what I wanted and hopefully a bit more. From a casual viewer perspective though, I don't know what to say much. Who to recommend it to I really don't know. I enjoy such pretentious princesses in movies, so for me a super comedy. Other than that, I'd say it's a mediocre movie. You have to take it with a grain of salt, because it's just funny. For me, it's a bomb, but otherwise it's about average and I don't know who I'd recommend it to. If you're looking for pretentious chick flicks, this might be for you ✨💋 Otherwise, I'd rather not recommend it. It's more or less crap like that, but I really enjoyed it.

Mandragora (1997)

For me a hidden gem

A very strong film for me and I'm surprised it's probably so forgotten. I hadn't heard of it until recently and I'm very glad I checked it out. Quite frankly, for me it was probably the best Czech film I've seen. It had a strong theme. It wasn't afraid to be dark and it wasn't a comedy, as is usually the case with Czech cinema today. I thought this was really good. The young actors gave good performances in my opinion. But what was also damn good in my opinion was the soundtrack. It drew me in right from the start. I was entertained the whole time, but from about the second half it caught an even better wave and started to get gritty and I really liked that. Dark World. Dark story. That's how I like it. I'm always interested in more serious and gritty films like that. I'm constantly praising it here, so just to give it away, it's a bit of a cameo for me. It's not that it's not watchable, but this year, films abroad already looked completely different, but in the Czech Republic we were still behind. Apart from the look, I have nothing to complain about.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)

In my opinion, weaker plot compared to the 2011 film

It was fun. It went by fast. I'd say a faster pace. First 10 minutes were the worst for me, but after that it was good. A simple goal in the plot. A little action every now and then. Near the end. It moved along quickly. I had fun. I have to take a little dig at the new animation, though. I understand the intent that this one is more cartoony and fits the fairy tale world, but I still liked the more realistic one better. Otherwise, I still liked the previous installment from 2011 better, which I thought had a more interesting story. I'm just not as done with The Last Wish as others. It was an enjoyable show that went by quickly, but it wasn't anything particularly great for me. A good cartoon that I can recommend.

Casino (1995)

Scorsese is the king of the crime genre

Scorsese is simply the king of mafia themes. Right from the start, I was hooked by the intro. I liked the music and it caught my attention. After that I just stared and stared and watched the story based on a true story about a casino where the big lowe's were spinning. I enjoyed it. All in all, it was an obvious choice for me. Granted, it was mostly about the casino and that it was so long because the movie is 3 hours long, but towards the end it got better and quite suspenseful. I was hooked and had fun. Some people will probably be put off by the length. Whether it's worth it is hard to say. I for one will say it was awesome, but if you're not a fan of crime themes and you're not into illegal activities or anything, this probably won't appeal to you that much because you won't find much action here and instead you're watching more of the aforementioned casino all the time, which I enjoyed and then I'll mention again the last half hour or so, which was more interesting. For me, a great film and the fact that it is a true story only makes it better.

Goodfellas (1990)

One of the best mafia movies ever

I had to watch this film again. I didn't like it that much after the first viewing because I spoiled it unnecessarily for myself. I had a tendency to constantly compare it to other mafia movies and I kept comparing it to The Godfather. At the time, although I thought Mafiosi was a great film, it was overshadowed by The Godfather for me. So I watched Mafians again a few years later and liked the movie much, much more. Awesome story and especially made even better by the fact that it was based on a true story. In some ways even a more interesting story than the aforementioned Godfather. 2 hours and 20 minutes went by pretty damn fast. I was absolutely immersed in the plot. Without a doubt one of the best mafia movies of all time. Excellent. As a fan of the mafia theme, I'm absolutely enchanted. Robert De Niro is great, as always. I'm glad I gave this film a second chance.

Oppenheimer (I) (2023)

A great biographical spectacle

Finally, another Christopher Nolan film. I always look forward to going to the cinema and once again he didn't disappoint. After Tenet, which I thought was really hard to understand, this was a treat. Well made with good moments and made even better by the fact that it is history. I was sucked in right from the start as the various cuts that followed were nice and overall it grabbed me right from the start. I enjoyed every moment and waited until the explosion of course. That's what interested me the most. Again, I wasn't disappointed, but what mainly improved it was the audio. I was expecting a nice spectacle. I got that. I had pretty high expectations there, so it didn't wow me that much, but it appealed to me very positively with Ludwig Göransson's music, which always drew me into the story. At one point, he had me pretty well riveted with his music as well. I was a little worried about how it would turn out without Hans Zimmer, but it turned out that it wasn't only Tenet who had such a great soundtrack, at least in my opinion. I liked the music.

Heat (1995)

Heist scenes were great!

In a word, impeccable action scenes. Every time the action came, I devoured it, although it came very few times, but when it did, it was worth it. That's what I liked most about this movie. Without the action here and there, I got a little bored by the end. It's a long movie and I didn't like it enough to keep my attention. So the biggest minus for me was the length. More specifically as I mentioned towards the end. Otherwise a blast and for me some of the best heist scenes I've seen, even if there were only a few. Great film and for fans of crime with occasional action I can recommend it. Heist scenes were great!
