Family Guy: Meg's Wedding (2020)
Lighthearted and For a Good Chuckle
Peters arms where the true star of the show, megs wedding almost being more of a b story. Tiny-armed peter was hilarious, and made to be overly positive and adorable. The "P-p-p-Peta" part was cute, i love the little details of him trying to roll up socks and using his chin, and the animators did a good job at bringing tons of life to peters design by giving him tiny arms. Additionally, tiny armed peter is more supportive and encouraging of his daughter, a side of peters character weve never seen before. And i loved the animation reel at the end.
Family Guy: Pawtucket Pat (2020)
a total miss
Overall, this episode tackled the fact that white Americans all throughout the political spectrum are one sided and dont listen to the voices of anyone theyre fighting for or against. And, while they did talk about a real indigenous tribe from Rhode island that makes beer, which I love to see, it also confuses me why the writing was so bad. The writers chose to do their research on a serious topic, but still chose to flat out copy the exact plot of a simpsons episode? Do they have no shame? I mean it was a complete duplicate, thats so embarrassing. They had the opportunity to make a good episode based on a real issue from the town that the show is in. But instead they fell flat with poor political commentary thats begging to appeal to the right, and a stolen episode premise(even the diary looks the same, cmon man) they couldn't have put the tiniest bit of effort into making their own ideas? And the "right leaning left in a movie" argument fell soooo flat for an episode covering genocide(even if it was supposed to be peters thoughts as an older conservative male, it feels more like the episodes message when you make it the ending and dont include any other parts of the argument, they had better argument writing about the godfather). The clap or your racist part fell flat too(espically because brian is a liberal, i understand that theyre trying to do right wing character development here, but they barely touched on why peters view should change, and basically undid it all at the end). Family guy writers are trying to appeal to the left and right wing at the same time, and they should just ditch the political commentary and accept the fact that it was and never will be their expertise. Besides, who is expecting good commentary from them? (other than south park fans who think the most basic arguments made to vaguely appeal to every side is the peak of political commentary)
Family Guy: The First No L (2020)
The lois episodes were refreshing this season.
Lois hardly gets her own episodes, so i think that Lois getting two episodes this season was great. It was still little enough to make it refreshing and interesting to watch. I'm glad they left the good writing to lois's two episodes. The Grinch scenes highlight the animators capabilities and was my favorite part of the episode, and this episode is entirely centered around lois's character development while still being entertaining. Reminiscent of one of the first family guy Christmas episodes, but more fresh and new. I hope to see more episodes like this for meg too, but not too many because then it will get boring.
Family Guy: Boys & Squirrels (2020)
if you think this is bad, family guy isnt for you.
This episode is a prime example of family guy doing what it does best: humor so ridiculous and inexplicable that its funny. Stewie and chris(a talking baby and his older brother) acting like a married couple is funny because its so ridiculous and something that makes no practical sense. Like the "oh, youre using again" comment about chris eating snickers. Family guy is and HAS been based on being silly and so impractical that its funny, almost like a comic strip or something of that nature. Like when lois trys to make peter smaller and it scene changes and hes laying on the pillow with his body being the size of a mouse saying "Well Lois, you are a master", i let out a loud cackle. Stop acting like family guy was some brilliant piece of american writing before, its always appealed to idiotic humor, and its what they do best. Its where you go to hear a funny joke, and has always been more about jokes than it has been its own characters with a few exceptions.
