The Whale (2022)
What did I even watch?
Beautiful cinematography and incredible acting, however I wanted to shot myself during this entire film, where I have to sympathize with some of the most awful characters in the world.
The entire movie tries to make you sympathize with Charlie because of all his suffering, a suffering cause by himself and his own selfish reasons. He's definitely a flawed character but he never tries to become a better person, I don't care he saved all his money for his daughter, he never didn't was a part of her life. I don't think love justifies what he did, he might have not love his wife, but he had a commitment with her, and with his daughter, and he had an affair, with his student may I add, he leaves his wife and daughter, then he gains weight and mis life starts to decline, he never tried to become a better or to change his life around for himself or for the people he love until the moment he died
Ellie is a horrible person who the movie tries to redeem at the very last few minutes of the movie. Liz says she's the only one that can help Charlie but spends the entire time just help Charlie kill himself, the minister guy is just an awful person as well, who is only interested in helping Charlie for his own selfish reasons.
Not a single character in this movie has anything good inside of them, they are all selfish in their own ways, will ever rewatch this movie? Maybe, like I said both the acting and the cinematography is outstanding even if everyone is trash.
One thing more, Charlie reminded me of Evan Hansen, a character who the entire story tries to make seen is a flawed but good inside character only to fail and have a a terrible human being, and I want to clarify I'm not saying Charlie is bad cause he is obese, he is bad cause he is selfish and only tries to slowly kill himself, just like this movie was trying to slowly kill me.
Diana (2021)
Pleasant
I enjoyed watching it and I found the acting to be decent. The music is okay but it's not that remarkable. One of the things that bothered me is that Diana is basically the same as Evita. It follows a very similar story, a beloved woman in politics that change the world, that created charities for those less fortunate than them and eventually had a tragic death, and between the two, I prefer Evita.
Run This Town (2019)
Painfully boring
It has a strong start but becomes incredibly dull fast, and the movie can't seem to decide whether Bram or Kamal is the protagonist. The only reason I saw this movie I was because Ben Platt is on it.
Centaurworld (2021)
I thought I was having an acid trip
This show is kind off insane, but in a good way, it's not for everyone but definitely would recommend it for fans of animation, who would have thought that a show of a horse with PTSD would be entertaining.
The Female Brain (2017)
It was okay
Really good acting, well define characters, a powerful message, but it was boring at times.
Dear Evan Hansen (2021)
It was okay
The first two acts are a roller coaster but not in a good way, sometimes I was really engaged in the film and then I will get really confused because of their interesting decisions. The third act for me save the movie, it has a better ending than the original musical and the book. I was disappointed to see little of the characters of Jared and Connor. Addressing the elephant in the room, Platt deliver the strong performance showing his love and understanding of the character. I also liked the new songs but we all know that the only purpose of them is to try and land an Oscar nomination. Would probably see it againg.
