Buffalo Soldiers (2001)
close enough for government work
This is a very strange movie, and the three year tour in Germany in the late 70s combined with my father's immediate post war stories, make me feel that little in this movie was unbelievable. Parts may have been grossly exaggerated, but as an acquaintance said recently, "In Germany, it could happen". I guess there has always been a somewhat uneasy relationship between the Germans and the US Army. Saying that the Old Army (pre 1980) was a bunch of choir boys would be a lie. We were a bunch of hard living individuals and the terrible exchange rate there really did lead to certain activities. The army has changed a lot since then, when I first joined we were looked down upon by civilians, now your treated like some hero. A sequel would be difficult to believe, a prequel on the other hand could make this look like a Kindergarten movie
Les invasions barbares (2003)
This is a very, very good movie
To paraphrase my Wife, "a poignant view of a man's journey into death". I saw 5 minutes of the middle it on the satellite and stopped, I was so impressed I wanted to see it intact. It made me laugh and the end brought me to tears. It does well at pointing out those little things that make Canada a lot different from the US and also those little Quebec things (like older guys and younger wives) even the Quebecois make fun of. The bit about 9/11 reminded me of how much I miss the Canadian TV News. The movie really gave me a feeling of being along for the ride, it was very believable, and in certain spots it was for me, very emotional and brought back memories. I would not have appreciated and respected this film had I been 25 instead of 50. My life experience wasn't great enough.
Drawn Together (2004)
I like it wife did not
This is quite the show. I don't watch reality TV but I will continue to watch this. There is actually something for everyone who is not prudish. Aroused, attractive women, a movie musical bit, some American History, some cartoon history, a crazy pikachu type creature and a lot of laughs. Combined with the reality TV idea. This actually had some thought to it. It may be vulgar but it was a sort of sophisticated vulgar. I did not care for the pig though maybe he should be dinner in some future episode. My hat is off to the creative team I will watch it again. My wife thought it was too vulgar for her, however, and she is a frequent viewer of South Park, so it might be a bit much for some
