Lucky (2004)
Misogynistic Garbage
This movie is complete garbage. I didn't think it was funny or anything. I could find no redeeming value in this movie at all. Do you think it would be okay for someone to make a movie about a child molester killing kids and raping them? Neither do I, and I also don't think it is okay for them to make a movie where the killer does this to women. When is the world going to wake and realize that this kind of stuff is not okay?
This movie supposedly won awards. So did Eminem, the guy who sings about raping his 10 year old sister. Well, I think it is very misogynistic and Hastings should not be carrying this kind of movie. Next time I'll be renting at Blockbuster.
Girls Will Be Girls (2003)
Sexist Garbage
There were a few funny scenes in this movie but the rest was sexist garbage mainly about women settling for men who were rapists, pimps, etc. because they couldn't get anyone any better or because they were too stupid to know better.
It also made fun of women who are older than 40 saying the 0 in 40 stood for "old, too old to get married".
I didn't really find it funny to make fun of women who are old or fat or ugly. There were also some really gross sex scenes and the plot was stupid, and campy.
I think the people who will most enjoy this movie are gay men because that's the only audience I think that won't be very offended by all the jokes about how these women try so desperately to get men.
50 First Dates (2004)
Nice Scenery, Pretty Good Story
I liked this movie, it also has some really nice Hawaii scenery and real Hawaiins. They also do some talking in Hawaiin.
I liked the animals in the movie. Adam Sandler & Drew Barrymore did a good job, Adam was actually a nice guy and Drew was prettier than I've seen her be in a while. I loved the boat scenes, especially the end.
Although I'm not sure how likely it is that someone would forget everything after they go to sleep. And I wondered why they didn't try some other things, but it was a good movie. And I think the way the Dad and the brother were handling the situation was pretty realistic because I've seen families act like that.
Peter Pan (2003)
Most Realistic Peter Pan & Wendy Yet
I personally liked the movie. Mainly because I liked the Peter Pan and Wendy they chose for the parts. I was really sick and tired of seeing Peter Pan played by a woman. Why on earth did they ever start that anyway? I'll never know.
There was a kind of sexual tension in the movie between some of the characters. But I don't think that isn't true to life. Children are attracted to each other at this age. And all it led to was simple kiss on the lips, between the characters. It certainly wasn't disgusting like the Brittany & Madonna kiss.
The only thing I could really complain about in this movie is the treatment of the Indian Princess character at one point. If you are a Native American, you might get mad, I don't know. But at least the Native Americans were actually played by Native Americans and not whites painted brown. And for this time period it was realistic.
My daughter thought parts of the movie were scary. She's 7. The pirates scared her.
I liked the addition of the nosy Aunt. I think that was really true to life and was probably pretty normal for that time.
The Nanny was great! I loved the scenes of the Darlings family.
Tinkerbell was fabulous as were the other fairies.
28 Days Later... (2002)
Bad Bad Bad 'Omega Man' Type Movie
This movie must be a sort of remake of the 'Omega Man' movie. There's a virus, it infects people, making them into zombies that like to roam at night. I wouldn't say this is an improvement on that movie. There is no personality for one thing, at least Charleton Heston was an interesting person in Omega Man.
The main characters do some annoyingly dumb things, like in all the formula horror flicks.
The end is totally unbelievable. I won't spoil it, but I will say that soldiers wouldn't be soldiers if they acted like that when faced with danger.
Note: I watched this movie almost entirely with the sound turned off so it wouldn't wake anyone up. Most of the sound in the movie is zombies screaming.
All the good comments on here must be from people who are connected to this movie in some way, because -- I'm sorry, but I just didn't see anything to rate this movie higher than a 1.
Freaky Friday (2003)
Good family movie, kid friendly.
Any movie with Jamie Lee Curtis is going to be an okay movie no matter how bad it is. Annabell Coleman playing her daughter was really good too. I thought she was really cute.
But this movie wasn't bad. It was kind of a "formula" type movie with a silly plot and then funny stuff happening as a result but it did have some interesting acting. How many actresses could have successfully played someone 30 years younger than themselves? Or someone 30 years older?
I liked the way this movie didn't seem "perfect" as in everything so well thought out in advance but this was more like real life where things happen haphazardly and they eventually get thought out.
Good family movie, kid friendly.
Moulin Rouge! (2001)
Beautiful Movie
This film also has a great sense of humor, with green fairies, funny uses of familiar pop music, and lots of love & emotion.
It is extremely beautiful as well as tragic. I never thought I would hear an Elton John song again in a movie and they did the song better than Elton John did it himself. (Makes you wonder if Elton John ruined other songs of his by insisting he sing them himself.)
But anyway this is my second FAVORITE movie of all time. My first being Betty Blue (37°2 le matin) which isn't out on DVD yet.
Anywho this is a love story set in France at the Moulin Rouge, an infamous French dance hall (which was the first building in the world to have had electricity). It is an amazing story in itself to read about the Moulin Rouge and Toulouse-Latrec a french nobleman with birth defects who hung out at the Moulin Rouge quite a bit despite his fathers wishes. Toulouse-Latrec is known for his artistic posters, which he mostly drew at the Moulin Rouge. It almost seems as if the whole story is just a dream of Toulouse-Latrec's.
The Moulin Rouge is the home of Satine (played by Nicole Kidman) who is a "consort". The young writer falls in love with her despite her profession and she falls in love with him despite the fact that he is broke. They have a "forbidden" love because of several factors and try unsuccessfully to escape their lives, to make a new life together.
The scenery is all at the Moulin Rouge mostly and it is beautiful. There were also quite a few supporting actors and actresses who did a very good job. The costumes made this movie. I think without the sets and costumes this movie would NOT have been as good as it was. It seems to me that instead of heaping ALL the awards on Buz Luhrmann, they should have been heaping awards on his wife, who did the set!
Also John Leguizamo was wonderful as Latrec, without Latrec this movie would be nothing. Nicole Kidman makes a convincing prostitute, because she is kind of cold and distant, as you would imagine a prostitute would be. And of course Ewan McGregor is really versatile and could probably play any part you gave him. There was some real chemistry going on with Satine and Ewan, possibly enough so that it broke up Nicole's marriage to Tom Cruise, who she is better of without anyway.
37°2 le matin (1986)
My Favorite Movie Of All Time
French. I absolutely love this movie. The music is haunting and beautiful.
This is the story of a beautiful but mentally disturbed girl who falls in love with an ordinary man and makes an extraordinary man out of him by believing in him AND getting him to believe in himself. It has a tragic ending, and beautiful music and scenes throughout the movie.
I loved the music.
This movie is so rich, there are just so many scenes in this movie that are beautiful. So unlike the trash movies made in America.
Down with Love (2003)
What a Stinker
This was such a bad movie! It was a "pretend" 1960's goofball movie where it's one of those women vs men and men vs women. The whole thing was so incredibly stupid, I can't believe they would even want to do a remake of this sort of dumb "love" movies.
The only mildly humorous thing about the movie was the surprise ending. But it was not very surprising really because the whole movie was like watching one of those mindless Old Navy commercials.
I can't believe I watched the WHOLE thing. After watching it I really didn't feel good about myself.
Hulk (2003)
Better Than I Thought It Would Be
Well since this movie was called "The Hulk" I kind of expected it to be sort of stupid. But surprisingly it wasn't really all that bad.
As far as story and plot and special effects it was pretty good. The only problem I had with it was the way that the talking scenes were quiet and the scary or fighting scenes were way louder.
Oh and the stupid scene at the end, which you will have to see to understand, was stupid. I don't really go for those fights in the clouds, sort of thing.
It had some neat special effects though and some "Green Giant" type tricks that were fun to watch. I liked Jennifer Connely & Eric Bana, they had some good chemistry. It really had a comic book feel to it too, which was kind of fun.
Eric Bana has really dark eyes so it was fun watching them turn green. And of course Jennifer Connely is incredibly beautiful and a good actress. I guess she seems like the perfect tragic mate to some crazy men, like in a beautiful mind, the hulk, requiem for a dream, etc.
Requiem for a Dream (2000)
OMG
Do not see this movie if you don't want to be haunted by it for the rest of your life. It really should be called requiem for a nightmare.
It involves the nightmare situation of poor people who do drugs. It is scary beyond belief and just so, so, so, sad. The whole family (such as it is) gets torn apart. The men and women in this movie have no power in the world, and their little fling with drugs costs them everything.
Also the scene with the mother and doctor is a good example of the current scourge of doctors who just don't give a hoot about their poor patients. The inhumanity of man is pretty obvious in this movie because there is NOONE willing to help any of these people out of their plight, even though in some cases it would be pretty easy for some of these characters to help these people.
The way that these people were mistreated in this film is what is the most disturbing of all. Many of the characters surrounding these characters could have tried to help them, and the characters themselves could have done more to try and help themselves but they weren't strong enough for some reason. And the cruelty of the police, the ex-boyfriend and the doctor were just appalling.
The Cat in the Hat (2003)
Hollywood Just Doesn't Get IT
Okay why was this movie so bad? Was it the actors? No (except for the cat being too much like Austin Powers). Was it the set? No. Was it the writing? Yes.
This movie must have Dr. Seuss rolling over in his grave.
Although it was nice to see the book finally in movie form. But if you want to take your kids to this movie I would think twice before I did it. At least only take kids that are too young to get the dirty jokes in this movie.
Apparently Hollywood these days can't put out a film that isn't crude and rude anymore, not even a kids film. Personally I found this film offensive to women. There were at least 2 scenes that I think they should never have put into this movie and I cannot understand why they did or why they even thought they would be funny.
School of Rock (2003)
Wow what enthusiasm!
Good movie. I loved the actors they picked, the music was great, the whole thing was very entertaining. The only thing I didn't like was the fact that they had to make a movie about rock, because kids now don't know what real rock is. Kids will love this movie too, mine did and it inspired him to go home and practice his piano.
Chicago (2002)
Not my kind of movie
I thought this was supposed to be such a good movie and I was really surprised at how much I didn't like it. I guess if you like the fancy costumes and the singing you would like this movie.
I also thought the whole thing was just depressing.
Good Boy! (2003)
Oh Boy Was This Bad`
This was such a bad movie. I wished I could have fallen asleep instead of continuing to watch it. The music was so slow and sleepy, you would think they would have had something more upbeat. But it was just booooooring.
Bowling for Columbine (2002)
Sheds Light on Several Issues
This was a wonderful documentary. Michael Moore has a hit again and this time on a subject much larger.
I never did like the tv news all that much and now I have even more reason to like it even less (you'll see why if you watch this movie).
After living about 10min away from Columbine High School I have to say that he did an excellent job on this documentary and explaining what the real problems are to cause something like this to happen.
Also some of the interviews were really shocking. And my heart goes out to those kids who were at school during the shooting at Columbine. They are brave souls. Which is in sharp contrast to the celebrities interviewed who were real creeps.
I really hope all Americans watch this and take it to heart. This movie is not just all about banning guns (although they do cover that subject). It is about improving our country in many, many ways.
Watch it and learn about yourselves.
Dickie Roberts: Former Child Star (2003)
Not Hilarious but Not Completely Bad
This movie is not hilarious but it is kind of good. It's a movie with a point to make. And it does. It also gives you an inside glimpse into what the people you see in movies really are like. At least some of them anyway.
I like the character Dickie Roberts he's nuckin' futs. But seriously, the movie was okay. I liked seeing the former child stars in the movie and everything but what I didn't like was the cursing.
The reason people liked the child stars is because they were wholesome. Some of these people are so angry it's really not pretty to look at. I didn't feel comfortable seeing these people be angry that they aren't famous anymore. Seems to me they should say, "hey, I was lucky to be famous, now I'm not, so what? Time to get a real life and be thankful for the great life I have now, even if that means not being famous anymore." I mean most people aren't famous. How many really famous movie stars do we have at one time anyway really?
I understand that child stars are frustrated but I don't think they seem to be very happy people in general but it's only because they want more that they can't have. There's lots of people who want more that they can't have. Time to go on and try to be a good person instead of being worried about the past and the things you can't change. Get over it already I guess. I guess if they had had a better upbringing from their parents they would not be so unhappy and better able to deal with what life throws them.
I liked seeing Leif Erikson and the others. They are older but still cool.
My Boss's Daughter (2003)
Dumb
It was dumb. Sort of like an Adam Sandler movie.
There were a few funny parts but not that funny.
I liked some of the actors in it though.
There were some Sat. Night Live people in the movie. But I wouldn't recommend this unless there is just nothing else better on. And it was still better than any Jennifer Lopez movie.
The Hours (2002)
Wow
This movie starts out slow but turns out to be very haunting and mysterious. Maybe that's because I don't know much about Virginia Wolf. But anyway it was good. Not the sort of movie to see to lift your spirits but I really did like it. It's the sort of movie you could watch again and again. Nicole Kidman was really good. The Meryl Streep section of the movie was kind of boring but it was supposed to be "present day".
Uptown Girls (2003)
Great movie, great acting
Although I know this movie probably didn't cost much to make I still think it was very good. I'm rather surprised that people on here haven't rated it higher and it makes me wonder if they are just trolls working for the competition, whoever that might be.
This movie was about 2 young women having to deal with growing up in their own way AND the death of their parents. Not exactly a light subject but dealt with very well. The movie shows how one person can have a huge impact on another's life no matter what age they are.
I think this is a great movie for girls and women although if you are super christian you might not want your kids to see it because it does have some sexual things going on, although you never actually see any sex on the movie.
I think this will be a very popular movie with young women and I can see why too. I think it was wonderful and inspiring.
Anger Management (2003)
Hand out the barf bags at the door
This movie really, really stank.
Why? Well, I would say it was the writing. They like to gross you out so that they don't have to spend money on special effects or other things like a nice location, or clothes etc. but I would say this genre is pretty played out already.
I mean can you imagine the worst city trashy people? Well they are all in this movie.
As far as the plot goes....bbbbboooooooooorrrriiiing.
I laughed 2 times. Once in the airplane scene and once when the movie was over when I apologized to the person I asked to come with me.
Friday After Next (2002)
100 Thumbs Down
This movie is just horrible.
No matter who you are you will probably be offended by it in some way. I mean if you are a woman, you will be majorly offended by it. If you are a man you will be offended by it.
If you think it's funny to hit an old woman and give her a concussion, then you'll enjoy this movie. But you would probably be in jail so you wouldn't be able to see this movie anyway.
I feel so sorry for the actors in this movie. I hope life gets better for them so they don't have to make such bad movies like this.
Maid in Manhattan (2002)
kinda good - kinda bad - feel good movie
Jennifer Lopez plays a Mexican American with a kid who gets her hooks into a politician.
Okay, first of all this movie was kinda good in that it showed a woman with a strong work ethic and who was intelligent. However I think it should have portrayed her as being a little more intelligent than she was in this movie. Too much weight was put on the kid doing unkid-like things. These were things she should have been doing herself to show that she and the politician really did have something in common other than a sexual attraction.
Also I don't know why but all of JLo's movies leave me with an uncomfortable blank feeling. This one did too, but it wasn't as bad as the Wedding Planner which the thought of still gives me the creeps. Ugh...remember the M&M's in the park where they were throwing away all the red m&m's? Yeck that was just soooo stupid.
So anywho, it's a feel-good movie with a little to be desired but it WILL make you feel good. And for that reason it's worth seeing if there is nothing else better available.
Daddy Day Care (2003)
enjoyable sort of
It was kind of funny. It made some good points about the way men are treated in relation to taking care of kids.
But it wasn't really all that funny even though it had one of the funniest actors in the biz playing the lead character. I think the characters needed some more and funnier jokes to make this movie worth seeing.
Bruce Almighty (2003)
Bad Movie Bad Movie Bad Movie
Okay here's why this movie was bad:
1. The character was supposed to "not be an asshole", but really was a real jerk throughout the movie.
2. The character Jennifer Anniston played was believable but sad. Why on earth would she want to be with this guy, he was just a self absorbed jerk.
3. There seemed to be not much "helping" of others going on in this movie. Some bad events happened to people in other countries and stuff, and nobody around seemed to care at all, not God or anyone. As if the characters and Buffalo NY were the center of the universe and who cares about anything else.
Jim Cary was his usual funny self, but this movie just stank because it was just not consistent and Jennifer Aniston's character was just a prop.
Get a clue people! Make movies where women have brains puh-leeze! Women ARE smarter than you in real life so why don't you reflect that in your crappy movies?
Oh and the ass humor never was funny, it is just gross. Apparently noone has alerted the brain dead movie producers in Hollywood of this fact.
BTW - It wasn't the acting - there are some good actors in this movie. It's the script!
