Gone in 60 Seconds (1974)
a lot of fun
I saw the movie in the theatre when it first came out, and I found it to be full of mistakes, but a lot of fun. There's one scene where the camera and crew are reflected in a car. It was obviously shot on a shoe string budget. If anyone likes car chases, this movie should be on the top of their list. If someone thinks Bullitt was a good chase sequence, check this movie out. This makes Bullitt look small. It was shot in the South Bay around Torrance and Redondo Beach in Southern California. If someone lives in Southern California, and saw the movie now, they would see the big changes that's happened around here since it was shot. If it hasn't become a cult classic, it should become one soon.
I wonder if it's going to be available on DVD. I would certainly add it to my collection.
I would recommend this film, just because it's a lot of fun. The acting isn't the best, but the action sequences make up for that.
Decoy (1946)
a good film noir
I got Decoy from Critic's Choice Video. They're an Internet and catalog DVD company. I had never heard of the movie before, and this copy was crystal clear. It came in a boxed set entitled Warner Bros film noir # 4. Just to see this movie is worth what you'll pay for the rest of the movies. Jean Gillie was great in this movie. It makes Barbara Stanwyck in Double Indemnity look like a pussy cat. It's sad to find out she died only making this movie and one other. I understand she died from pneumonia and was only 34 years old. If you get the movie from C C video, listen to the comments of one of the writers of the movie. It brings the movie to life. It was interesting to see Sheldon Leonard in this movie. He plays a cop. Of course, he became famous years later on television.
