Queen & Slim (2019)
Has more plot holes than a rural road in Russia
It had a really strong start. Accident happening because of a prejudiced cop. It's a great take on the harsh reality of minorities, not only in the US, but everywhere.
Then it goes downhill fast. It's really hard to believe an exceptional lawyer like Turner-Smith's character to make series of such wrong decisions. Kaluuya's character also gets over the whole situation really fast despite being that (represented at the begining) never gets in trouble, kind-a-guy.
The 4 stars here are mainly for the potential this movie had at the beginning (the idea) and the strong acting Kaluuya and Turner-Smith deliver, despite the weak script.
Lamborghini: The Man Behind the Legend (2022)
Just boring and clearly not understood
This should have been a story about the pursuit of dreams. The strive for success, the unstoppable will to go against everything and win it all. What we get is a boring story, that underplays the importance of given events, and is kinda confused if it wants to show the passion of man, who wants to become the very best or represent Ferruccio as the worst person in the world.
The real story of Ferruccio Lamborghini is really inspiring, a 10 minute YT video or even the Wikipedia page about his life are far more interesting and engaging, than what this movie serves or tries to achieve.
I won't even mention the inclusion of the imaginary race with Enzo represented with cars that had little to none connection with the story whatsoever.
The movie is so unengaging, that I often found myself looking at my phone and forcefully went back to watching the movie again. This movie also introduced some characters and never really took off with them from there.
My conclusion is this was really a poor attempt of a "movie with personality disorder", that butchered what is in reality an inspiring story of a small unfortunate boy with big dreams and his path to achieve them. Sadly we will need to wait some significant time, when another movie makes a mence for everything this movie got wrong.
Sisters (2015)
Boring, unnecessarily rude and cynical
You would expect Tina Fey and Amy Pohler to bring the best in the comedy genre. The cynical part is also expected, but usually it's there to make the story more fun. Here it was incredibly unfunny, and leads to nothing really. The funniest part of this movie were probably the bloopers after the credit scene. The script is nothing special and really predictable (expected from a light comedy like this one). The thing to save this movie should be the jokes, but unfortunately it failed with that. Too much unnecessary rudeness and swearing, that don't contribute in any way to the story.
It's either liked by an audience I don't understand (single women over 40) or people are voting just because SNLs Tina and Amy.
How I Met Your Father (2022)
Just bland
At first, i was hyped to learn there is a HIMYM series spin-off. Watching the trailer, I realised it will have nothing to do with the original and I accepted that. Humour was so bland, that I only laughed once for all first 3 episodes.
Making a spin-off must include some kind of connection to the original series. I mean if you want to be considered as a spin-off, you know you will be attracting the fans of the original series. HIMYM had all these references to pop and nerd culture, this one doesn't. HIMYM presented all their main characters on it's pilot and made them relatable by giving them a short description of who they were and how they are connected to each other, this one didn't.
My point is if you want to appeal to HIMYM fans, than make it somewhat more relatable, if not than why using it's name (and theme song even) at all?
Tales from the Loop (2020)
Great potential wasted by poorly build story
The plot had the opportunity to build itself like a happy and not so thrilling drama like Eureka, or take the Black Mirror path and have itself build a dark thriller story, but expanding through the whole series. However it choose neither.
Ep1 was different, but yet exiting, I was wondering throughout what will happen, despite realizing that jump in time. So I continued watching further and further. At first I thought, ok, maybe they want to build all characters, before building the story. Then I realised they tried to have something like Black Mirror, but with correlation with all the charcters, yet not exploring the story, but build just around the dialogs.
I understand they are trying to emphasize on the situations, the characters are put in, and to dramatize further, they've made everybody too appathic. I mean the characters just accept their fate and don't question the strange situations at all, just take it as normal one, like such things happen all the time.
I don't know, maybe I am not deep enough, but all of the dialogs, which should be the whole plot, are just bland and empty. Nothing really happens, and that nothing leads to more empty plot.
