Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007)
A remake with original performance
I see this film as the dawn of a new age Indian cinema, a professional cinema. No more repetition of traditional boring hero heroine stories.
Bhool Bhulaiyaa is that kind of movie which caters to that part of audience which understands the director's narration through the movie yet Bhool Bhulaiyaa manages to entertain all types of audience. The story starts with the revelation of the legend of the Haveli which seems to be haunted by the soul of a dancer who had committed suicide many years ago after her lover, a court dancer is murdered by the then king who was in love with this beautiful dancer.
Paresh Rawal, Asrani, Akshay Kumar are the culprits of the movie who almost manage to turn this into a comedy but all praises to all of them as they have given their best works. Akshay Kumar has a rare talent unlike other stars which manages him to bond with the audience easily. Vidya Balan does a decent role in the movie and does more than justice to her character towards the end of the movie. Manoj Joshi who plays Badrinarayan has a lot of talent I must say. Shiny Ahuja & Amisha are as good as a show piece in the movie.
On an all the movie is very entertaining. The courtroom dance scene is very unique & beautiful, a directional work which only few Indian directors are capable of directing. Although a remake of a south Indian movie the performance is very original.
I give it 6.5 out of 10
Laaga Chunari Mein Daag: Journey of a Woman (2007)
An unholy plethora of a woman who belongs to the holiest place in India
A look at a lush green fully grown tree might be a treat for one's eye but even it's root might have ended up in some drain of a cosmopolitan city from where it sources its life.
Well such is the story of this movie where in a simple small town girl falls in the webs of the flesh industry to get her family out of it's hysterical trouble. Now when such is the story of the movie less is left for the director and more for the actors to perform....and do they deliver???....
YES they do, Rani Mukherjee does justice to this difficult role that she has performed, specially during the transformation from a village girl to the so called "high class escort". But Hats off to Jaya Bachchan & Konkona Sen Sharma who i should say is a jewel of bollywood. Its now that i realize how talented Mrs Bachchan is, a remarkable performance i should say. Abhiskek Bachchan is not Akshay Kumar but does his part in the movie to the audience's pleasure.
On an all it is a well crafted movie, a movie on which effort has not been put only to sell it but otherwise. As far as the Rs 220 that i spent on watching this film is concerned, i think i got my money's worth. My suggestion is "please go and watch the film for the performances.
Shootout at Lokhandwala (2007)
Flop
This is by far the worst ADAPTATION movie of a true story. It was a struggle to understand what was the focus of the movie? Was it the gangsters or the police force of the incident itself? The casting of the gangsters is as bad as the performance by established actors like Sanjay Dutt or Suniel Shetty.
After watching classic gangster movies made by noted director like Ram Gopal Verma who has given a realistic touch to his movies like Company or Satya, Shootout at lokhandwala is clearly a disaster. To make matters worst the gangsters RAP in English in one of the songs, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT!! The four stars rating out of five given by TIMES OF India is a joke. I clearly wasted my Rs.130 for this movie. My suggestion : Do not watch it.
