The Bourne Ultimatum (2007)
the best Bourne by far...but...
The third in the Bourne Quadrology is as exciting as the first two. The plot opens up like an onion, layer after layer, after dangerous layer. Matt Damon excels as Jason Bourne. As all American films, it shows one man to be a super genius and the system that is trying to bring him down as a bunch of idiots walking the streets on a Saturday market.
The film has some fantastic action scenes and he camera-work has been intended to make you feel as if the action is happening right in front of your face. The fight scenes will give you a feel that u r huddled in a corner while the action is going on all around you. Full marks to cinematography. Same thing goes to chase scenes in NYC and Tangier. Music is equal to the visuals and enhances the look and feel of the film, greatly. For me, the best scenes, in terms of cinematography and picturisation are the ones shot in London's Waterloo station and the action scenes shot in Tangier.
It has a lot of moments, where Jason Bourne's intelligence and presence of mind seems to outwit the CIA operatives, out to get him. It also gives a superficial scan of CIA psyche-breaking procedures, which were mainly used in interrogations, a subject brilliantly explained in the book "A Question of Torture" by Alfred W McCoy. Does Jason Bourne die, when he goes to terminate the CIA program that created him? Go watch it...and go with an open mind...coz the unexpected will hit you again...

Sunshine (2007)
starts it well but Danny loses the plot halfway
Like any Danny Boyle film before, the visuals are fantastic and appealing. A mixed starcast is natural, courtesy of globalisation and brainy people being discovered on all corners of this round earth. The film starts well, with the objectives clearly defined and you pretty much know what it is all about in the first few minutes. All is well and then obviously a technical goof up occurs and its taken care of...peace is restored at the cost of mission head's life...then suddenly the plot takes a twist, an irrecoverable twist from where Danny Boyle has lost it...the crew try to link with another ship and things go haywire from there. To add to the dilemma, we have a psyho, stuck in outerspace for a decade and he talks all sorts of religious gibberish. In the end one does not know if the film set out to achieve its objective of tellin us what was gonna happen. To sum it up, I would say, Danny Boyle is capable of delivering better than this.
You wont miss it.
cheers.
Alpha Dog (2006)
young cast, great plot...
This film is witty, funny, sarcastic, cool, visually appealing and very very deep and serious. No nonsense film in which the plot takes time to set in. But once the stage is set, there is no stopping the wild ride. You dunno whats happening next. There are some great scenes in this film which are visually very very appealing. There is one scene in which Johnny is calling Jake to talk bout his brother, they show the conversation in spilt screen. One one side u see jake hollering like a psycho and on the other side u see Johnny cool as a cucumber....two contrasting states of expression. However eventually one realises that its johnny who is a nervous wreck. Then the climax...when Frankie and Elvis take jake's brother in the car....i din expect what i would be witnessing the following few moments...I am not spoiling the suspense for you lots...all I wanna say is if u wanna see a young, fresh, gangster film with sarcastic and slapstick humour, bundled with a kick arse attitude, please dun miss this one...lest u will regret it.
cheers and happy viewing.
Provoked: A True Story (2006)
unnecessary
Considering the section 498 of Indian Penal Code, a film like this is a very strong message to the Indian society that anyone can do anything and get away with it.
It was a very disgusting piece of film making. Exaggeration at its best, no doubt about that. All it attempts to portray is that atrocities are being committed on women. It shows the system as too biased towards women and sends a very clear message that sympathy & tears can work wonders.
My personal rating would have been -1 or 0, had there been an option.
Not worth your time, money and effort.
The Sentinel (2006)
not the best but...
not the best thriller but will do,if nothing else is available. lacks depth and digresses on a couple of occasions. if u have giant expectations of this movie, looking @ the cast, sorry to spoil your enthusiasm.
A few things could have been done to make it a little more gripping. a few scenes could have been avoided and the loose ends could have been tied up in a better way.
i would say, the people responsible for this film have not taken full advantage of a fantastic plot and a brilliant lead cast. has some tense moments in the beginning but thats it.
both Douglas and Sutherland have done a good job but certainly, they are capable of more than this.
