As much as I like this show, there are two things about it that have always mystified me. I'd be happy if someone else can explain them.
1) Why does everybody call each other by their last name? House's first name is 'Gregory', Cuddy's is 'Lisa', Wilson's is 'James', Chase's is 'Robert', Foreman's is 'Eric', and Cameron's is 'Allison'. Why doesn't anyone use them? If it were the Supreme Court or the US Senate, I could maybe understand it, but this doesn't make any sense. Do you call your co-workers by their last names?
2) Who pays for all the medical procedures? I had some blood work done on my cat last month, and the bill came to $150. I can't imagine what a week 's worth of care in this hospital, with four full-time doctors, every diagnostic test known to mankind, and most of the operations as well, must end up costing. Does the hospital do it for free? Does the patient's HMO cover it? (I'm only being slightly facetious here). Does it come out of the taxpayer's pocket? Just once I'd like to see a medical show where they tell the patient "Well, we can do this and that to cure you, but it's going to cost $100,000", and the patient decides he or she can't afford it.
