Ragdoll (2021)
Unrealistic bulldust
What a lot of rubbish. Apart from the nausea of every cop having debilitating psychological trauma (sorry, doesn't happen), there are so many holes in the story, it's ridiculous. For example, Baxter arrests Rose for murder and then leaves him to get away. That's just after he allegedly kills a journalist and she interrupts him while he has a shower to wash away the blood!! The killer can magically appear in the back yard of someone's house, kill a policeman and walk away no questions asked. Someone's life is under threat, the heavy duty cops are all at the front of his house, but there's no one seriously watching the back? Give me a break. Did anyone read the script before allowing it to go any further? Unless you're deprived of any common sense, don't bother.
War of the Worlds (2019)
Did they think it through?
Why is it that such an advanced civilisation has such clunky, noisy and slow "robots"?
Why does every French patrol have Durand dressed in red (thus standing out like a massive sore thumb) as part of it? An obvious target, a vicious commentary on French military competence.
I suffered through the first series in the hope that it would get better. Re-read the book and was not convinced to change my mind. Then Series 2 started in the same vein. Aaargh.
I have no complaints about the actors: they dealt with what was in front of them. But those who thought this was a coherent interpretation were way off the mark. There is no logical consistency in this series and it's a sad take on what was a brilliant book.
DNA Family Secrets (2021)
Is this about the people or the presenters?
Potentially interesting, but Dooley's manufactured presence is a total negative. Visually she is unnecessary, but the worst part is the smug "I know something you don't" that pervades every episode. It's so stilted, it's embarrassing.
Turi is almost as smug, but is maybe saved by at least some level of expertise.
If the focus of this program was the people, it would be great. But the focus is the presenters and that's so off-putting it's almost unwatchable.
