A Bug's Life (1998)
Still watchable today
First of all, I watched A Bug's life for the first time a few days ago. My first encounter with the material was an audiobook which featured original sound from the film. With this in mind, I was really amazed how the movie is still a cool experience today.
The story is set about a colony of ants who have to collect food for the evil grasshoppers who come back each year. One clumsy ant messes it up and has to find away to protect his colony from the oppressors.
The story is nice, although it follows a classic Pixar movie pattern (e.g. One clumsy guy messes everything up but raises to be the hero after overcumming many obstacles). Just don't expect something groundbreaking, as the delivery of this story is very charming and carries really valuable messages, for example that even the small ones can make a difference.
On a technical level, you definetly see that this movie is from 1998. But: With this in mind, it is still really enjoyable to watch and it makes you really appreciate the effort the animators made. The lighting in many scenes looks fantastic and really sells the story. The voice cast does it's part in making every character unique and likeable for what he/she/it is.
All in all, I was really satisfied by the movie. I think it is a good movie for family nights, as the kids and the adults can find enjoyment in it. The only downside is that this movie does not something that much different from todays point of view. This is ok and it depends on your preference whether you expect something like this from a movie or not. As I said, it is still really ejoyable.
Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021)
Absolute fan service ... and I don't judge!
I love every facette of this film! I was a little bit worried that the two trailers take away to much from the story and that it would be disappointing. But I was so satisfied in the end.
First of all: For people who haven't seen ALL of the previous Spider-Man films (meaning the original trilogy + TASM + the two Tom Holland films), this movie doesn't make that much sense. There are two many cross-references which you might not get. If you are a Spider-Man, then this movie is for you. The story is funny, but very emotional in the end. There are so many little details which makes your nerd heart skip a beat. Adding to that, the meme community will also like it. Because there are many memes reeancted and new ones which is so cool.
Watch it for yourself. You won't be disappointed.
WandaVision (2021)
Fantastic show with excellent plot point
Are you ready for a ride through the history of American television? Then WandaVision is a show for you!
Honestly, I did not expect that one of the first MCU series for Disney+ would be one of my most beloved series of all time. To some extent, this show is art on its own.
But let's start simple: Wanda and Vision live a happy life in a classic American suburban neighbourhood. Their life resembles a sitcom from, well, every century since television is on. Why do you ask? Find out yourself. It is difficult to not include major spoilers in a review. But I can tell you this: If you are familiar with the movies staring Wanda and Vision and know about the origin, you will quickly notice that something is quite off in this "friendly" neighbourhood.
The execution of the serious is unique and brilliant. The jingles for the sitcoms which carry the vibes of shows from their time are so catchy and are the cause for many nostalgia thrusts. While the first three episodes are quite slow in terms of story progression, you will quickly get the premise of the show. Up from this point, is a fantastic show with a splendid cast which deservedly won multiple Emmys for its performance.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
The fairly other super hero movie
Being called "Infinity War: Part 1" at the announcement, Infinity War turned out to be the darker part of an epic final Avengers duology. The emphasis is different to previous films, making Thanos the main character of this darker movie. The cast is excellent as always and really nails the drastically changing emotions in this film. Overall, people can say that this movie is better than Endgame. For my part, I think the double-header of Infinity War and Endgame makes it fantastic, surprising and inspiring story.
