Girl Meets World: Girl Meets Belief (2015)
One-sided & bad messages
I first watched this as a teenager. Even then I could realize this episode rubbed me the wrong way. As an adult I rewatched this, it still was not good. It's very one-sided. It portrays Maya's lack of belief and Farkle's adherence to science as bad, or that if you aren't religious you must have a bad life like her, and you have no morality. Meanwhile, Riley and Lucas's vague beliefs in a god make them good people. Maya and Farkle need to be pushed to understand Riley and Lucas belief's, but Riley and Lucas are not challenged to understand Maya and Farkle's lack of beliefs. Along with very bad comparisons they act like are smart, such as "oh you can't see air, and air exists therefore god exists even though you can't see god." (even though there are actual ways we know air is there, as we can feel it and breathe it...) and also Maya is convinced to pray at the end even though she wasn't religious. I feel like there is a much better way to have gone about this. While the ending was okay in how they accept their beliefs, the middle was really bad. It's frustrating that both sides weren't equally challenged.
The Owl House (2020)
One of Disney's best cartoons yet
This show, despite being a fantasy series is surprising realistic and well-written. The world-building and characters are fantastic. The visuals are stunning. It has Gravity Falls energy and humor, while still being its own separate entity. It has tons of twists, turns, and unexpected revelations. It's emotional, funny, and deals with important topics. I'd recommend this show to anyone, really!
Sydney to the Max: Girlz II Women (2020)
Stigmas on periods need to stop
I think this episode was great. Periods are not inappropriate for kids to learn about. They are not an adult subject. You literally start getting them way before adulthood. It's a part of childhood for most women. It's something half the population experiences. I am male, and I learned what they were very early on due to growing up in a house with a mom, two older sisters, and one bathroom. And I learned again what the were in more detail in my middle school health class. Young boys should know what they are and as a society we need to stop acting like it is an embarrassing thing. Sydney is like what, 12 or 13? Many girls get their first period way before that. Periods are normal and nobody should be embarrassed to have them. To the person in the reviews that said that boys might look up what a period is and then it will embarrass girls, let me just say that if anyone makes fun of you having having one, they are an absolute loser. This was a good episode, and it annoys and frustrates me that people got angry about this episode being too "adult."
Best Friends Whenever (2015)
It's okay, but could be better
I liked this show, but I would also love to rewrite the whole thing. Season 1 actually is really good, especially near the end. I enjoyed it a lot. Season 2 is okay, although not better than Season 1. I just felt like they made some decisions that made no sense.
Chet and Bret's B-plots are so hard to get through, they are genuinely annoying and a their characters feel like a blatant "let's try to appeal to young boys watching our show" because the show stars two teen girls. They serve no other purpose and if they didn't exist as characters I wouldn't be sad about it.
Naldo was also flanderized pretty quickly into the dumb guy trope and was the most second annoying one for me, behind Bret and Chet.
And why did Barry have a whole "I love you Marcy and I won't break up with you, we're meant to be together" plotline, only for Marcy to disappear in Season 2? I loved Barry and Marcy. In Season 2, Barry gets an unnecessary love story with Daisy instead and in my opinion they had no chemistry. Also, if Marcy's actress had to leave for another show, why not explain that way by mentioning that Marcy had to move instead of acting like she never existed?
Other than that it's a okay to watch, especially as backgorund noise and if you get past the first few episodes being more mundane ways. Spoiler, they end up going through dystopian timelines to fight a whole evil villain.
