Hazbin Hotel (2019– )

Colorful, beautifully animated, and great music! Just one thing for us Christians though...
30 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Firstly, let me add a disclaimer for the fellow Christian such as myself. Don't watch this show expecting it to be Biblically accurate or Holy. Watch "The Chosen" if you want something like that. This show isn't designed to be a story about Jesus and God, moreover it's supposed to flip the story we already know of redemption in the Bible on its head in a really creative way.

I first watched this show with my agnostic girlfriend and I was originally worried she might gain a bad view of Christianity, but ultimately, it's only bad if you delve deep into the "oh of course they're making heaven look bad" aspect of the show. Don't do that, keep the idea that this is entirely fictitious and LOOSELY BASED ON the Christian "mythology".

Now that that is said, even as a Christian, I LOVED this show. Every character is beautifully written, even Adam the pretentious prick that he is (I'll get into that more later). The animation is out of this world stellar, and the songs man...THE SOOOOOOONGS. All except one song was amazing (I'm sorry but that power ballad of Vaggie and Carmella wasn't it), and the lyrics are very catchy.

On the note of the characters, each one is their own seperate entity with their own distinctive personalities and I love it. The story follows a standard Disney plot of "a goody two shoes princess attempts to save her kingdom from destruction" but makes it in a way Disney could only DREAM of. My personal favorite characters are Angel Dust and Husk. Angel is such a broken and tragic character and the issues presented within his life are taken very seriously and handled very well. Husk is a perfect opposite to Angel, making them work very well.

The biggest problem I think people might have with this show is exactly what I mentioned at the beginning. It IS a bit on the nose with the idea of "Heaven is not that great either". But! What people are very obviously missing is that Sera didn't WANT to exterminate Hell, it was, as she said both in private to Adam and at the court house, an incredibly hard decision to protect the ones she loves. Adam and his sidekick are the ONLY angels out of all of Heaven that seem to be evil, everyone else seems to be very empathetic and welcoming to everyone even their supposed "enemy". Other than this issue though, people need to liven up a bit, again, they aren't saying "Yeah Christian's are evil and so is God." In fact, God was never mentioned and the only time He was half IMPLIED was during the beginning when they said the order of Heaven lost all the good they made.

Other than these issues, Hazbin Hotel is my new favorite animated show of the past decade and I will happily ride that horse into Hell and back (see what I did there?)

I always come back!!!
28 October 2023
A tour de force for FNAF fans. This movie, though it had its flaws, was a stellar piece of horror fiction, and the best way to give fan service to the community of Freddy's. From the AMAZING job done by Jim Hensons Creature Shop of animatronics, to the special effects and horrific jump scares, this movie had it all that we wanted (though more gore would've been nice, it was still amazing.) as a long time fan, I must say, Scott, you have done us proud. 8 years of work and waiting has all been worth it in the end. Of course though, not every movie is perfect and this one was certainly anything but. For fans of the series, we're already accustomed to convoluted and messy plots, and this film followed that pattern. The plot seemed to be on a very rocky, rickety and old train track. While on point, it was very rocky. The acting of Josh Hutcherson and Matthew Lillard for sure made up for it though. The one other gripe is the pace. It was incredibly fast, even for me, and that's saying something. Im hoping they take more time to draw the absolutely ENORMOUS plot of FNAF out more so we can better understand it and get a good grasp of what's actually going on, because I left the theater feeling bad for the non-fans of the series. They probably have no idea what's going on or what just happened. All in all, the film was amazing, and I will for sure be watching it numerous times over. If you have a chance to watch it, go do it!!! And see it in GTX!!!

Oppenheimer (I) (2023)
10/10
A true masterpiece
28 July 2023
Oppenheimer is without a doubt one of the greatest films released in the past decade. Christopher Nolan has once again created a masterpiece in terms of production quality, cinematography, sound, and of course...the writing. Oppenheimers story is powerful and very complex as he works in the second World War to build a bomb that will hopefully end the war, but as all things do, problems arise for our protagonists. One of the things this film did exceptionally well, was portray Oppenheimer as he was, no bars held. As you may have guessed, he is not a good person, and the film did not stray away from revealing that. It showed he had good intentions but in the end wasn't the best. The sound design team deserves an Oscar themselves for how outstanding they did. The theater shook and rumbled all around us as the classic marching sound swelled and filled the theater, and the sounds the bomb made and his visions made were so good. The movie also successfully filled all 3 hours worth with story, and kept me immersed the entire time. As for the cons, which is only one, the movie is truly and mostly just men talking in a room for 3 hours. Overall, if you want a deep, powerful movie with excellent acting and production design, you should absolutely check this film out.

Always room for one more...
27 July 2023
The Haunted Mansion was a wonderfully spooky, fun and emotionally charged roller coaster that I was not expecting to be as good as it was. Sure, there were moments where the plot felt like it had fallen off and it felt all over the place and you could clearly tell where those moments were, but I felt like I was riding the ride all over again and it was drawn out over 2 hours.

The most surprising part of this film was its emotional aspect. Every scene where Ben talks about his wife had me in tears. For those with loved ones that have sadly passed on, this movies emotionally charged scenes will have you in tears.

The best part of the film is of course Crum or otherwise known as The Hatbox Ghost, spookily and masterfully played by Jared Leto. He is the first truly menacing and COOL Disney villains portrayed on film in a while and as a good villain lover, I was so happy.

My last Gripe about the film was its character development or introduction of certain characters, you'll know who I mean when you watch it. I wish they had taken more time to introduce us to these certain characters, because it would've made the film much smoother. But other than that, the film was so so fun and truly epic and I would highly recommend to fans of the classic and spooky ride!!

Halo Infinite (2021 Video Game)
10/10
MICROSOFT'S BIG BAD POWERHOUSE RETURNS!!!
9 December 2021
Halo Infinite. Need I say more? This game is a high graphics, bulleted hell, god-tier soundtrack injected abomination that everyone, despite if you're a Halo fan or not, can easily enjoy. Xbox has certainly out-done themselves this time and Playstation can do nothing to outdo it. As much as the campaign itself is a bit lackluster when put into perspective, the soundtrack, mere existence of Chief, and graphics make up for it. HEAVILY recommend for all people who loved the previous Halo (except for 5) games.
