Introducing... Janet (1981)
Watched it on CBC...
I saw this movie around the time it was released. I remember watching it after school, which seems to jive with the after-school-special references in other reviews. As it's been 30 years since I've seen it, my recollection of the movie is pretty vague, but there was a scene that always stuck with me all these years. It was when Janet was reading a poem she wrote about her insecurities, explaining how she tended to keep herself protected by this 'bubble', which at this point I can only assume was the self-deprecating humour she used to elicit the laughter she craved but also hide her emotional pain. On a certain level, I identified with her, which is probably why I remembered this scene all these years (if I'm even remembering right). Now that I know the title, I will hopefully stumble across it and watch it again.
