The Menu (2022)
Just a really well-made cheeseburger
After coming out of the theatre, it took me a while to decide if the feature I'd just watched was a plain, ordinary movie or a meta, orignal work. The conclusion I came to was that this movie is exactly what it advertises: a culinary experience. An ephemeral but beautiful/artful experience, with no true purpose or meaning. It wasn't anything fancy or outlandish, but it was a masterfully tuned experience with no pretenses or attempt at anything greater. This is nowhere near the kind of niche cinematographic experience that ends up being worshiped by a small community of cinephiles. It's not a fancy, extravagant rendition of a meal. The Menu is just a really well-made cheeseburger.
12 Angry Men (1957)
One of the most complete and complex works I've seen
12 angry men was surprisingly elaborate and complete. Even though it's from the 50s it was fast paced enough that you keep interest the whole 90 minutes - and it's just people arguing in a room about death penalty and the weight of a man's life.
Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
The title is fitting
This piece of art of a movie does exactly what it says. Everything everywhere all at once. This movie nears perfection in every aspect of a good movie. There is no « i love the plot, but the characters felt shallow », there is no « it was flashy but i got bored ». This movie is a mystical experience combining visual, auditive, psychological, philosophical, humoristic perfection. Read no further. Watch it.
Forrest Gump (1994)
A timeless masterpiece
Forrest Gump is a beautiful, pure, creative, timeless masterpiece that still manages to be stuningly simple, easy to understand and relate to, and be an amazing movie even after rewatching it dozens of times.
