Arcane: League of Legends (2021)
Brilliant start, but struggled to keep the pace
The first three episodes of Arcane provided a really good opening for the series, however the episodes that followed were quite slow and the plot became really poor. Although some many enjoy the sheer amount of details that you must remember going from one episode to the next - there were far too many details which weren't very interesting and caused a lot of scenes to not make sense. It's a similar style to the Marvel franchise for example, and personally I think there is too much focus on lots of trivial details rather than actual entertainment. Despite this, the final episode was good for the most part and Powder and Vi's character developments are really clear to see here.
Overall, the series held up fairly well and people that have never played LoL can enjoy this just as much as those who have, but I probably wouldn't recommend Arcane and I doubt season 2 will see any improvement.
Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (2012)
One of the best FPS games
Counter Strike is a very good FPS game, and continues to outperform even the latest ones despite being released almost a decade ago. Unlike similar games such as Valorant, Overwatch etc, anyone can get the same enjoyment out of playing CS:GO, regardless of playing ability. For example, there are many game modes available for new players such as training and playing against bots, and you can play LAN games without being restricted to a minimum of 5/6 players. Additionally, there is the ability to play on custom maps created by the community, rather than being tied down to the default maps and the games eventually becoming quite generic.
However, CS:GO can sometimes feel quite repetitive, especially after playing for several hours - personally I think there should be more game modes available.
Overall CS:GO remains one of the best FPS games and I would recommend it.
Powfu Feat. Beabadoobee: Death Bed (Coffee for Your Head) (2020)
Dissapointing
This was the first song I heard from "Powfu", and it wasn't very good. The lyrics are quite generic and repetitive, and compared to other songs of the same genre it doesn't really stand out. Personally I wouldn't recommend Powfu, and this genre overall.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
An Extremely Daunting Experience
This is the first film I've watched from the marvel franchise, and it's very disappointing. The visuals looked like they were done by a 12 year old (very CGI heavy, as of which was awful) and the plot is far too complicated. It excludes those who haven't watched all the previous films before this one, especially in the time travel scenes, which were arguably the weakest parts of this film. There are also many other scenes that are either too slow, or don't make sense which significantly added to the length of this film. The action scenes saw little improvement - they were drawn out and any individual battles taking place were practically impossible to see. Captain Marvel must be the worst actor I've ever seen, and Spiderman looks like someone they've dragged out of secondary school. The popularity and success of this film is really difficult to justify - perhaps the audience are none the wiser and lack the viewing of good quality films. This is the first film I've seen where it feels refreshing to see the end credits. I would not recommend the marvel franchise, unless you enjoy a good endurance challenge.
Doctor Who (2005)
Went from a household name to an absolute disaster
I've watched this series since the revival in 2005, if I reviewed the series from 2005-2012, it would be 10/10 with very little criticism. However, since the old and creaky Peter Capaldi took over in 2013 and Jodie Whittaker in 2017, Doctor Who has lost almost all of its original audience. The Doctor being male is how the show was written and has worked perfectly for decades, like James Bond for example. If you replace the main actor with some irrelevant woman from Sheffield with an irritating Yorkshire accent, don't be surprised if 95% of your audience is disappointed. Instead of destroying the daleks and wiping out the cybermen, we have 'Tea at Yazzy's'. There's little point bringing back David Tennant to improve the series, the damage has already been done and the original audience has been replaced with a bunch of woke feminists that have no taste in television.
Thunderball (1965)
Another classic from Sean Connery, but just a bit too much water
Great film that still holds up almost 60 years later. Plot is very strong and easy to follow, runtime is just right for the film and the visuals weren't too bad. However, the underwater scenes were quite drawn out, and you could hardly see anything during them. Overall, the film is great and would definitely recommend it.
On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
Probably the best bond film
George Lazenby awkwardly takes over from Sean Connery in this film, but the plot definitely makes up for it. It's one of the rare occasions in film where it actually makes sense. Soundtrack is arguably the best in the series, visuals aren't too bad almost 60 years later (apart from the ski chase which was a bit embarrassing). Ending was brilliant, definitely came as a shock after everything that happened before it. I would definitely recommend this film, and you don't need to watch any of the Bond films before it to understand what is going on.
The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
Underwhelming
Compared to the previous bond films up until this point, this one was quite underwhelming. The plot is a bit inconsistent and I couldn't figure out who was on who's side even at the end of the film (side note - the ending was a trainwreck). Roger Moore wasn't terrible but he's a bit too posh to be James Bond, and appears to be a bit bland. Despite Roger Moore's sheer incompetence, the villain was really good. Scaramanga was created very well and you could tell he is actually very similar to James Bond. Overall this film was disappointing and isn't something I would watch again.
No Time to Die (2021)
Action-packed and visually stunning, but nothing like a bond film.
I watched this in the cinema shortly after release, and thought it was brilliant. After watching the older bond films for comparison, it seems that this film is fine as a cool action film (like the marvel franchise for example), but not anything more. The plot is quite poor and a bit too generic, the villain feels like a typical scooby-doo bad guy. It seems that the producers' only goals are either a quick cash grab or to tick the 'PC' box. Some people quite like Daniel Craig, but they must be used to main characters that severely lack in the charisma department. It's a great shame that this film satisfies the woke crowd, instead of the long-time bond fans that simply want to see a great film, not a poorly drawn out advertisement.
