The Dark Knight (2008)
It's so 2008.
In 2008 this movie was fantastic. Now, 14 years later it can't help but feel dated. I love the script, sets, audio, and (most of the) acting. But the editing and slow zoom camera shots are overdone. Do we have to zoom into everyone?
Heath Ledger is an honorable mention. His performance is captivating. Almost hard to pay attention if he wasn't on screen though.
I could never get past the casting of Maggie Gyllenhaal. Her performance gives the same energy as a teenager in her high-school drama club. I personally took off one star vecause they forced me to sit through her performance. Then, I gave one back because the script itself is a 10/10 lol.
The Power of the Dog (2021)
Ready to move to Montana
This film left me speechless. The visuals of Montanas landscape played a critical role in my entertainment.
There are two ways to view this movie. One as a mystery that's slowly unraveled. Two as a case study into male toxicity. As you warm up to Cumberbatch's character Dunst's falls apart dramatically. Maybe I am not as bright, but the ending fell together like butter on a biscuit. Right as I thought Cumberbatch had changed for the better every small move clicked.
It seems like most criticisms are about the subtle romantic elements, and it speaks volumes, not on the movie, but the viewer.
The Devil Wears Prada (2006)
A Classic
This movie should be on the top 250. It's original, influential, and stands the test of time. Underrated imo due to the female fan base and mid soundtrack. But the plot is powerful and the outfits are iconic.
