Simon (2004)
9/10
Simon the real dutch man. He will change the dutch movie forever.
2 February 2005
Simon is real in every way. Living in the part of Amsterdam called the Jordaan where the last "real" Amsterdam people live. This movie is drenched in dutch culture, including the coffee shops. Simon is a soft drugs dealer and owns a coffee shop in Amsterdam. Simon tells the story about two friends, Simon and Camiel. Camiel is fascinated by Simon, he enjoys how Simons personality gets them in strange situations and places. After a holiday in Thailand their friendship ends due to a mistake Camiel made. Years later Camiel meets Simon again. Now things are very different, Simon has cancer. This movie is one of the most moving pictures I have ever seen. Partly because it captures dutch culture spot on, and it feels so real. The other reason is that the story is just great. Eddy Terstall wrote and directed the movie. And he knows his thing. Knowing what is important and what is trivial. This is clearly the best movie he made. The movie Rent-a-friend was clearly a step in the right direction. But with this one he has surpassed himself. If I should describe this movie in just one word: impressive.

Lorenzo's Oil (1992)
9/10
A story about hope.
2 February 2004
Lorenzo's oil

A true story about a battle for the life of Lorenzo who suffers from ALD. A rare disease which destroys all basic functions like speech and movement and in the end takes the life of the person. In this movie the parents fight the clock by doing their own research and investigation.

This is a true masterpiece, about hope. Acting and directing are fabulous. You can feel the cast being involved. I have seen a a lot of movies of Nick Nolte , but this must be one of his better ones. Here he proves he can do more than "another 48 hours". Nick is convincing in every way in this movie, even though he has a very hard part playing an Italian(Augusto Odone).

Susan Sarandon plays the mother of Lorenzo. It's incredible how she plays the part of a mother near the end of her powers pushing away everybody that does not share the same faith in saving the life of her son.

This movie is underrated, and should be given a chance. I seen a lot of movies and normally i do not watch this kind of movies, they cannot hold m y attention for long. But this one is different and really heartbreaking.

I had never heard about ALD. So today i did some investigation, and found out that Lorenzo still lives and you can write him if you want

Almost Famous (2000)
9/10
Almost the best movie I have seen this year.
3 January 2002
Now this movie is something else. It's a unique movie, that really let's you taste the sixties and seventies in all it's glory. It was one of those movies where in the middle your mind goes like ... " please let this movie go on for ever.." . The acting is just wonderful, and soundtrack is really rockin' it. This movie has it all, a real message, good humour and a great story. This is as good as it get's i guess. This movie is for people that are looking for more than standard hollywood action.
