Shrapnel (2023)
Perfect good guys v evil guys drama
I don't understand the low reviews. What do these people want? This movie is raw, realistic, well written, great acting, satisfying from start to finish. In the fantastic battle scenes, there is none of the usual gabbing between the good guys and the bad guys. Just straightforward "I'm going to kill you before you kill me." No artificial drama, unnecessary buildup, just trash can realistic actions and reactions from all of the characters. The length of the movie was just right. Enough relationship background to make you care about the people, but no attempt to make it more emotional than necessary.
The Surprise Visit (2022)
Terrible movie rounded out with a terrible ending
Why don't screenwriters and directors ever ask themselves the most basic questions? Like "Will viewers really enjoy watching people make lots of stupid decisions?" Or "Do viewers really want all of the good guys to be senselessly murdered?" Or "Will people think it's terrific if we follow a disastrous, ugly ending with happy music and a people playing on the beach scene?"
This movie is so bad it's hard to describe how bad it is. It has no redeeming qualities. One flagrant example: the female protagonist has, after torture and terror, finally escaped and made it to high ground, with shelter and a shotgun. She's bleeding from a horrible leg wound when she fell and a stake went deep into her thigh. So what does she do? Leave her secure spot and go hunting for the evil home invaders, of course. They wrestle the gun away from her and shoot her dead. She's a lawyer, but ends up being dumber than the mentally challenged female invader (Annabelle).
Anyone who gives this more than 2-3 stars is either lying or is as dumb as Annabelle.
Women (2021)
Decent drama but some big plot holes
You start with an interesting idea, add in some good acting (especially Anna Marie Dobbins), develop some backstories, set distinctive moods. Then you mess it up with some big plot holes - and I'm a movie fan who generally doesn't nitpick movies. The big ones are why these girls didn't escape when the madman was away for hours teaching university classes, and why Jennifer shoots the detective before shooting the madman who has used and abused her for five years. Why kill the good guy when you know you're going to kill the bad guy anyway? The ending wasn't the worst, but when you bump off the good cop and the woman so recently kidnapped, you're a movie maker who doesn't respect your audience.
Assassins Run (2013)
Just Enjoy It
So many people like to nitpick everything. The movie isn't perfect, but it's a lot of fun and says a lot about misplaced trust.
The lead actress is quite talented. I'd like to see her in more roles. She does a wonderful job of transitioning from being scared and fragile to being a warrior. The bad guys put her on Sun Tsu's "fatal terrain," and paid the price.
I've noticed that a high percentage of negative reviews are chock full of misspellings and grammatical errors. I'd give most of these "expert" reviewers one star. If you can't write English, you should have the decency to keep your opinions to yourself.
Conspiracy (2008)
Great Movie Ruined by Gratuitous Nudity
Excellent plot, could have been a 10 rating. Val (Spooky) overcomes PTSD to stop injustice. Movie is spoiled Hollywood adding scenes which exploit women. Therefore, we won't recommend this to our sons.
Queen of the Amazon (2021)
Worst acting in a B movie ever
It is actually amazing how bad the acting was. The plot was preposterous. The pacing was slow death. Anyone who gives this more than 2 stars is either lying, paid, or hasn't seen a movie since 1958.
