The Contestant (2023)
Wtf
The creator of this show is a huge pile of S@&T, He thinks he was being clever and interesting and creating entertaining shows even though he was essentially being a bully torturing another man for profit. I still got the feeling that he thinks he's hot S@&T, and kind of wish that he would've gone to jail. The other creators that are filmed also are responsible for taking part. They have zero sympathy for their fellow man. They are essentially the bully on the schoolyard making money. I hope the contestant himself Has a very fulfilling life now. What a sad story, take advantage of a guy who is Trying to make it.
Masters of the Air (2024)
Ignore the haters
Great show, very emotional. Excellent filming. It's a show about American fighter pilots and people are mad because they are not Showcasing the British? It's literally about The 100th airborne FROM USA. Sure, the statistics might say that other countries Had better fighter pilots or Had more kills But this show is literally about THIS group of men from USA so just relax that it's got American pride, It's about American soldiers why wouldn't it? Somebody was mad that it showed that a British person was rude, British people can be rude ya know, It doesn't mean all British people are, I'm sure somewhere in the historical records it shows that a British person was rude to an American . The relationships in this show are what make it great, the camaraderie, the fact that they know that they could die at any moment, but they keep persevering Because the flight is worth it. I saw Somebody stopped watching it because they saw a more modern haircut On one of the men. Really?! So you decide to give up on the whole show because of one haircut? Give me a break, everybody looks for perfection nowadays, why don't you Look for what's good in a show? Personally, I thought it was great Because it gave me an understanding of what my grandfather and Great uncles Dealt with. Some are saying, it is not realistic, I don't know who these people are or why they believe this, but they apparently are World War II armchair scholars.... Ignore them, watch the show because it is Exactly what most shows are not today, full of compassion.
3 Body Problem (2024)
Far more digestible than source material
This is going to upset fans of the novel series, which I also read, begrudgingly. I kept reading because the story was so fascinating. I couldn't stop, but the way it was written was confusing as hell. Almost on purpose it felt like it was trying to convince the reader it should re-read the last three pages to try to understand what the hell is happening. I was so happy to hear this was going to Netflix because I knew that they could not make it the same way the books were because nobody would watch it. I was pleasantly surprised they are capturing the essence of the story, while the more confusing aspects nonexistent. Great show.
The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping (2024)
Insane story, weird delivery
Obviously, the school should've been shut down and the teachers should have been prosecuted for their inhumane actions towards these kids. I do get an odd feeling that these people are trying to convince me that this happened, as if we don't believe them. I really don't quite know how to explain what I mean. Is it the way that it's edited? It feels like random interviews supposed together about how horrible people treated them. It feels kind of like a YouTube compilation of conversations by people who were traumatized at one point and are trying to act it out years later. I get it, it sucked, you have a Netflix documentary, we believe you, there's footage. They really should've done this from a dateline type of perspective. Have somebody like Lester Holt explain the stories and the history of the school. Have him interview people. I don't know, I had a kind of a hard time getting through this because of the way it was put together. I really do feel for these kids though. Looks like it was complete Hell in that school.
Halo: Allegiance (2022)
The bad reviews are for people who are OBSESSED with the video game
This is one of the better episodes of the science-fiction show that I've seen in a long time. Great depth of character, great action scenes, great tension. All of the characters are well written. The people who are crying about this episode probably spent too much time, eating Doritos and playing Halo. They think this has to be EXACTLY the video game. I used to play the video game, I can gladly say this is BASED on the halo universe. I didn't start watching the show so I could relive the video game. I started watching it to get amazing episodes like the one I just watched. People need to relax about their nitpicky insanity. How about you Just enjoy the show. If you want the original source material, go play the game.
Halo (2022)
I never played the game, maybe that's why I love it
This show is way better than I thought it would be. I do play video games but I never played halo because it's multiplayer and I've never been a fan of multiplayer, so I have no understanding of the halo universe or plot line if any. I imagine true halo fanatics might be disappointed with this show? I don't know, but I'm glad I don't know anything about the video game because I think this is one of the better science-fiction shows of recent years. If you love science-fiction with action and depth check this out. I'm glad I waited until the second season came out to start watching so I have much more to binge.
Wonka (2023)
No, it is not a remake of the original, but it's still great!
I don't even like musicals and I ended up loving this film. It has quirky comedy, quirky characters, fun writing, and an interesting plot. Full disclosure, I thought Tim Burtons Willy Wonka was horrible so if you loved that then you're probably not going to like this. This Willy Wonka is kindhearted, not strange or mysterious. This movie has heart. It is a feel good Willy Wonka movie. The cinematography was great. The acting was great. There are people saying it does not feel like Roald dhal, because it is not following the book, I disagree very much, has the same heart and sense of character that his books have. People are so obsessed with the film having to be EXACTLY like the other films, or exactly like the book. If You are one of those people you won't like this movie. If you have an open mind and enjoy the concept of Willy Wonka in general, you will love this. Don't listen to the haters.
A Murder at the End of the World: Chapter 7: Retreat (2023)
Felt like a weird ending
The storyline was good enough but something about the way this last episode was directed and edited felt very sloppy and chaotic(not in a good way.) And when they light Ray(the AI bot) on fire, it just felt very over-the-top and kind of cheesy. It actually reminded me of the 90s movie hackers and makes me think maybe the Director was a fan of that movie. For a series that felt very sharp and focused In the beginning, it ended in a way where I felt completely bored and did not care anymore. All of the emotional moments felt forced. It's funny because it's the same woman who did the OA, a show I felt exactly the same way about. Great beginning, and slowly went downhill to where I did not care at all about the end. I was recommending the show for the first five episodes and now I feel like I need to call those people and say just stop it's not worth it.
The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
All of the characters are insufferable
Is this trying to be succession? What am I watching? Horror succession? I don't understand the hype that this Director gets. This show is surface level. Everything is about snarky attitudes and expensive outfits, Rich jerks and "clever" writing, kind of annoying to watch. If I don't care about any of the characters, I actually don't care if they get killed off at any point. Just another example of an overhyped show. Maybe I will end up liking it more, but so far it seems rather dull. Now I am just going to say randomness until the required characters for this review run up because it's ridiculous. You have to require a certain amount of characters to review something. OK I made it goodbye.
Frasier (2023)
Off to a great start
So much of what makes Fraser great is the small things. The lighting of the cameras, the set design, the music, and the warmth of the characters. So far this incarnation has understood that. It's not quite as funny yet, Daphne and Niles and Marty and Roz really were a great cast that played off of each other very well. I'm hoping that this new cast will start to grow on me more. My expectations were very low for this. So possibly that's why I give it a nine. It has the same feels as the first it just needs some more time to mold. It is great to see kelsey 20 years later, and hearing the song in modern times is very nostalgic. Let's hope it gains traction so we can have more than one season.
Severance: The We We Are (2022)
One of the best season finale is the show could've ever had
I have no clue how there are one star reviews of this episode. All of these people want the show wrapped up in a tiny little gift basket? That is not at all what the show is about. It's a psychological, sci-fi, thriller, not a romantic comedy. I've never wanted to see a season two of a show more in my life. The writing and lead up to the end of the show was genius. I just finished the whole season for a second time and think it actually is better the second time. I wish there were more shows like this. If you are looking for another show with this type of feel watch silo also on Apple TV .............
Station Eleven (2021)
This is what humanity can be
I read the book, the show sways a little from that path, but keeps the main emotion alive from the book. This is definitely an emotional show, it is not your average apocalyptic show. This reveals how humans interact in hard times. It also showcases how humans age and forgive and forget. It reveals how in the end humans want to love and survive. It beautifully makes apparent the mortality of everyone you love or don't. Kudos to the show, excellent acting, excellent screenwriting, excellent editing, and foreshadowing. All around A+
But stray away, if you are looking for more general apocalyptic tropes that we've seen done again, and again in apocalyptic shows and movies. This one follows a different path. It is far more in-depth look at humanity, facing itself, in all its raw form.
Someone was complaining about the violin music, personally I love classical music, so I found the soundtrack amazing. This doesn't have modern Pop music and clichéd cool guys. Go find something with the rock or brad Pitt if you're looking for that.
The Great Buster (2018)
Should have been edited better
Why would you talk about buster dying An hour into the film, barely talk about it and then have a half an hour more about some of his work. What kind of weird structure for a documentary is this? It would've been great to see more in depth content about Buster as a person. What he was like to be around. This movie just gives you the basics, he was born, was in movies, people loved him, had a nose dive of a career, and he died. You can look this up on Wikipedia, and watch YouTube clips of his films and get the same knowledge. If you want a well thought out structured film with an arc and some emotion, this is not it. Pretty sad for such an interesting character and amazing artist. It could've been emotionally satisfying, but it felt like a boring history movie I would've falling asleep to in high school.
Room 237 (2012)
This should be labeled in the COMEDY section
There is a poster of a skier, this woman said the skier kind of looks like a Minotaur, therefore...... IT IS A MINOTAURRRRR....then there was a cowboy picture which is the opposite of a Minotaur....um...lady... that literally looks like a skier...
Danny was riding around on the first floor and then the second floor and then it looked like he was on the first but he was actually on the second while his mom was on the phone on the first, so he was above her, kind of like how dreaming happens aboveeeeeee....like in your head.....
It's actually a fun movie to watch after I realized I can't take it seriously, I just wanted to hear more weirdos make up random nonsense as if they were scholars at Harvard film school...
The Boys (2019)
Great show even though it pushes establishment politics
Great show even though it pushes establishment politics. Great story great effects great characters. The problem only lies with the fact that all of the evil characters are generally pushed as right wing. They couldn't make it any more obvious. Homelander, American flag. Falls in love with the Nazi woman. Kind of weird. Her rally has people with pro life and pro gun signs. Roll my eyes. Luckily the show has many redeeming qualities.
