Black Mirror: Demon 79 (2023)
Art Breaks Rules
Art breaks rules. It takes chances. It does the unexpected. Sometimes it works or doesn't. These cries that "this is not Black Mirror" are comical at this point.
Here an Indian woman is tasked by a demon to murder 3 people over the next 72 hours or it's the end of the world. It's a brilliant episode full of outstanding performances, great costumes, misdirection, and surprises.
I loved the subtlety of the tape deck seducrion scene and the subsequent violence.
I loved the hero shot of the demon sitting down in the recliner and the confident way he crosses his legs and gets comfortable.
I loved the ending and how Charlie Brooker knows that all we really want is someone to connect with (especially this concerning socially alienated Black Mirror viewers who really 'get' the show's vibe.)
That Charlie Brooker dares to pivot from the technology based stuff is the whole point. Doing the unexpected is what makes art.
Star Trek: The Next Generation: Final Mission (1990)
Tired of People Hating on Wesley Crusher!
A fine episode and showcase for Wil Wheaton.
I have never, and do not care to know why there is so much hate directed at Wesley Crusher. It is herd mentality at its most obvious and pathetic. Furthermore it is bullying and it disgusts me. Most of us have been watching this show since the 80s. How many people on here can honestly say that 30-odd years ago during this shows first run we would complain about Wesley Crusher? I never did, nor did anybody I know. Now there's all this hate.
It is sickening. This is the same kind of stuff that Rose Tico has to endure for no reason other than that she won a role in popular franchise. If you are a grown adult on here promoting hatred and hostility at a person who was basically just a kid on this show, you need help. You need to ask yourself what truly is so bad about Wheaton's perdormance and the Wesley Crusher character specifically. Also ask yourself if your complaints merit bullying an actor, who incidentally has not had an easy life, 30 years on.
If you are new to this show, do not let bullies taint your experience. That is all a hater is good for. Form your own opinion. Be an individual. Think for yourself.
I invite anyome on here to tell me why I'm wrong.
Bullies are the lowest form of human life.
Wil Wheaton did a good job on this show. He is a fine actor.
Star Trek: Voyager: Warhead (1999)
This is why 1 star reviews were invented
Voyager is a TV show capable of such profound, mind numbing stupidity that it is almost quaint, and I love it. The cast deserved Emmys for reciting this episode's script with straight faces. They bring a bomb on board their ship and try to communicate with it. The doctor tries to protect it's feelings. I'm pretty Starfleet Academy is designed to weed out recruits who would behave like this, and the captain is the worst. Janeway allows the doctor to persuade her to keep the bomb on the ship. Were I on board Voyager I would have no choice other than to mutiny, assume command, and confine any officer who sided with the weapon of mass destruction to the brig. Seriously, you don't stay captain when you act like this. Interestingly, Kate Mulgrew gives the least convincing performance. She looks like she wished she would have called in sick to the set that day so she didn't have to say those lines. This is as bad as Voyager ever got. But it's still Voyager and I still love it.
