The Irishman (2019)
a porfetional killer oldman
In the opening scene of The Irishman, 77-year-old Martin Scorsese enters a hallway I'll call the hallway of history. It looks like a valve. It completely captures the surrounding light and shows us only a frame or door frame. It is as if we are sitting in the cinema hall or in front of the TV like an audience and we slowly enter this frame. The camera is wandering. He enters the old people's place and turns his head here and there as if he is looking for someone. Who is he? He introduces him bit by bit. He is sitting in a wheelchair. There is no one in front of him. Loneliness is the price of an expensive ring that is emphasized for a moment.
The old man says nothing. A voice of the mind as narrator recounts his confessional biography. Like the arrangement that Scorsese used in movies like Good Fellas and Casino. This voice of the mind while explaining the story of the past for us, also causes a kind of distancing. We are always at a certain distance from all events. We don't get so involved in emotions and excitement towards murders and gangster missions, nor are we generally disconnected from them. Because the first person voice creates a kind of identification and intimacy with the character. It is as if we are looking at these events from his mental world. Now, sometimes we may give him the right and sometimes not. We have no limits in judging.
But who is this old man named Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro)? Why is he sitting alone in this place? What does Scorsese want to show us from his mental world? Sometimes it occurs to me to say, this old man is the essence of all the 77-year-old experiences of Scorsese. He himself has lived in the neighborhood of Little Italy since he was a child, and his family were Italian immigrants to America, and he knows the history of the mafia very well. He is aware of the Catholic religion and its effects on these people. He knows about the mechanism of casinos and has made many films about each of these cases and informed us.
Now the question is, what are you looking for in an Irish man? Why did he go to the mafia again? Maybe these old men still exist. Maybe he should review the history again to check the situation today. This time, but with more thought. By avoiding the display of explicit violence. A face-to-face confession and a root of American history after World War II. Again, he must check the mechanism of the mafia. Infiltrating a person in the mafia system, taking advantage of him and finally leaving him alone. The use of Joe Pesci, De Niro, Harvey Keitel and even Al Pacino, who after watching his performance in this film, cannot be imagined to have worked with Scorsese before this film, is not without reason.
Detachment (2011)
A faceless man in an empty classroom
Note: "Where are you going?"; This sentence of Erika, the street girl with whom Henry later establishes an emotional relationship, rings and resonates in Henry's ears. The film is the story of an artist's life; A teacher who looks confused. It is better to say, a teacher who is "supposed" to "seem" confused and lost, because we don't see anything of this lost in public except for irrelevant stories and sloppy structure. Pay attention to these stories: the cheerful old teacher who wants to make the that rude girl understand that she should dress appropriately for the school environment, the ending relationship of the school principal with his wife and that he is going to be fired. That one teacher who has a stupid face, the kids make fun of him and we see him at home for a moment when no one cares about him, that Asian teacher who doesn't know what's wrong with him. That fat photographer girl who is still not sure what her problem is and why she commits suicide and... the movie is exactly that messed up. He wants to say a thousand words, but he leaves everything half and half and makes the audience unable to communicate with the main character of the story, Henry, and understand what his problem is and why he hates life so much. At first, we feel like in the movies where a teacher enters a classroom and influences the rude and arrogant children there, we are supposed to witness such an atmosphere, but except for the very beginning, when Henry, because of the rudeness of a boy, He gets expelled from the class, until the end of the story, we don't see anything special about this issue, so that the discomfort of the children in the class at the end of the story and when Henry is going to leave seems believable. In the meantime, perhaps the only story of that cute street girl who establishes a relationship with Henry,A little ice melts the story and makes us sit down for the movie. As a result, this film has become a work that wanted to be everything and talk about the problems of all age groups, but unfortunately, it approached the issues and problems very superficially.
Demolition (2015)
One of the best psychological movies I have seen
I was very connected with this movie. It was interesting to me that he did not feel sad when his wife died. This got me thinking.
It was interesting to me that after the death of his wife, he started to look carefully. He thought that he did not love his wife, but when he looked more carefully over time, he realized that there was love between them and he and her that he not paid attention to it all this time.
Now, it is possible to look at the character of Davis from another angle, a man whose grief and loss of his wife's death was so heavy for him, who destroys with eloquence and madness as a kind of emotional projection and by pretending that he never really He does not love his wife and is looking for consolation.
