The Creator (2023)
So ambitious on visual, they forgot about script
The movie looks great. The special effects are great, the money spent to make the robots look/move/feel like a natural part of the story was flawless. Even the actors do a solid job with what they were given. But there's the shift to my review and how this got a 3 star rating: those poor actors were given a script so shockingly full of plot holes they wouldn't get past an 8 year old. Like robots with amazing technology, but yet no sensors or camera technology that we we already have today. Or a storyline that is basically a Frankenstein of twenty other movies stitched together to make a shoddy attempt at a plot. As good as it looks, story is everything for a movie. At least for me. If I rewound time I would have chosen many other movies to try out. Don't bother here.
Happiness for Beginners (2023)
Yikes
I hate being overly harsh, but this is a pretty tough watch. Ellie Kemper's natural wit and charm are no match for a script and director that created such an unnatural dialog that it seems like she has never been part of a real human conversation. Hugh (comic relief character) showed promise but again... see comment about script.
The conflict that was attempted comes from out of nowhere and many scenes seemed like they were shot in one take and wrapped. Some called it "a fun watch." I can see why some might like the simplicity of the watch, so opted to go with the 3 out of 10 (as opposed to lower)
Swimming with Sharks (2022)
Misses the lessons of the 1994 original
The re-written version of the 2022 Swimming with Sharks misses the tough-to-come-to-grips-with lessons portrayed in the 1994 original movie. The 2022 series is fine for a consumptive time-passer... The 1994 original will stick with you for life.
