See (2019)
Is this a parody?
First off, I refuse to watch more than the first episode so my opinions are based on the pilot alone. I hated this show! The premise is ridiculous. The human race wouldn't survive a year if everyone was suddenly struck blind. Then, if you accept the premise, watching good actors pretend to be blind is just painful (and strikes me as offensive). The first episode raises so many questions: Who put up the guide ropes? How do you know friend from foe? What's with the war paint that no one can see? What's with that dreadful queen? But I don't even care about the answers. This show is a complete waste of time.
Walker: No Such Thing as Fair Play (2022)
Best episode yet
This is my favorite episode of "Walker" to date. I was getting very frustrated with Jared Padalecki's performances in this show: the facial tics and stammering delivery. Jensen Ackles got a great performance out of his long-time friend and co-star. And the "Supernatural" Easter eggs were so much fun - even though a certain song had me nearly in tears. More like this, please!
The Orville (2017)
Worthy successor to Star Trek franchise
My husband and I started watching The Orville expecting a crude, juvenile parody of Star Trek. Instead, we fell in love with it! It's a top notch, nuanced, sophisticated sci-fi show - with just the right amount of crude humor to show the viewer that it doesn't take itself too seriously. The regulars are likable and fully fleshed out characters and the celebrity guest stars are great!
The Orville feels like a ST:TNG sequel. This was a pleasantly surprising discovery (pun intended). We had high hopes for Discovery but were/are very disappointed. If you're looking for good ST, watch THIS and not Discovery.
Star Trek: Discovery (2017)
Speak up!
Why must Michael whisper all the time? I'm willing to suspend disbelief long enough to accept the anachronisms, the contradictions with the other series, even the inconsistency within the motives and actions of the characters, but WHY MUST MICHAEL ALWAY WHISPER? I know from watching TWD that Martin-Green is not much of an actor. Does she think that's what acting "serious" or "dramatic" looks like? Who's directing this? It's very annoying.
Mamma Mia! (2008)
Way too old!
I took my 11-year-old daughter , a fan of the musical and Broadway soundtrack, to see Mamma Mia last week and we were both very disappointed in this movie. With the exception of Colin Firth, all of the principal actors were about 15 years too old for their roles. Ms. Streep looked every bit of her nearly 60 years, which is not a problem by itself but was very jarring in this film because Donna should be in her 40s. Sophie, Donna's daughter, says she's 20 years old. How much sympathy is the audience supposed to feel for a woman who bore a child out of wedlock and was disowned by her family in her late 30s? Sandra Bullock and Cheryl Hines would have been better choices for the roles of Donna and Tanya. I don't know if they can sing but they're the right age. Stars in this age range may not want to admit, or be typecast as, being old enough to be the parents of a 20-year-old in a culture where all women between the ages of 16 and 60 are expected to look 25. But my daughter and I found that our enjoyment of this film greatly suffered because of the terrible casting. We'll go back to the musical when the touring company brings it to town again but I can't recommend the movie.
