Star Trek (2009)

Have you disengaged your external inertial damper?

How can a true Trek fan explain how important this movie is without Trekkies rolling their eyes?

True Trekkies won't. And I have learned why.

I grew up a Star Wars kid. Through and through. From day one pop culture taught me "Star Wars cool, Star Trek lame." Lightsabers over phasers. Hyperdrive over warp. Wookiees over Klingons. It wasn't even a considered debate for my personal fandom. Until this movie.

This installment not only inspired me. It has undoubtedly inspired a new generation of Star Trek fans that have now, not only rejected their pop culture indoctrination, but have dived into all that the Trek fandom actually offers.

These Kelvin Timeline films can be understood to not be accepted by Trekkies only after you become inspired enough to look up and learn why.

If you're looking, if you're searching, if you're reading reviews for STAR TREK 2009... The film did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Welcome! Kirk or Picard?

Don't Get The Hate (spoilers)
28 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This is hands down my FAVORITE installment in the entire series. WHY!?! WHY?? You may ask. Don't worry friends. Come along with me and pause your hate for a quick read and I'll tell you why.

This movie is edited perfectly. It makes you feel good. Ever see Hot Fuzz? The music and visuals come together in such a way that the atmosphere and mood make the movie. Ride this flick with your heart on your sleeve. Also, it was released in the post-Matrix world of cinema. The slo-mo still feels fresh for the release date and gives the audience more of what they wanted to see in the movies.

The seclusion to one location (Australia) for the duration of the film is unique for this, and all, installments. This was before the IMF had to globe-trot against shadow agencies and sought out evil masterminds like MI:3-6 or Craig's 007s. It's not a sequel storyline as much as just the next mission.

Why was Goldeneye so great? I'll tell you. Bond wasn't going against some hidden mastermind villain. He was going against his own, 006. Ethan is in the same situation. Fighting one of his own, who knows his every move.

Love at first sight. Another unique characteristic for this installment. Now before you start going off about his wife from MI:3; who has somehow managed to stick around, restrain yourself. Clearly she was his cover. We all know he had the hots for dumbdumb who got her brain popped on the helicopter. So know, the fact that you jumped to that defense is exactly why you don't like this film.

One movie, one director, one concept, one mission.

Sadly this is the last installment that utilized Masks as means of deception both to characters and the audience. I never wanted to see how they actually made the Masks, I just wanted to be surprised when they took them off.

And to circle back around to the perfect film edits that make you have the feels, try and think back on these two perfect parts. One: Ambrose realizes he's killed his number 2 and the dramatic music swells until it crescendos right as Ethan rips off his mask and the Mission Impossible theme comes right in.Two: When Ethan pops the front wheelie and spins around pulling his handgun to shoot the car full of henchmen. The beat that the gunshots and bullet hits make while he's aiming for the gas tank has such a specific beat that you know it was conjured up in the editing room to make you feel good. And it does.

If you don't agree with any of this at least give me this...the doves actually work for their scenes :)

You Smelling Something, Boss

This film doesn't exactly travel light, does she?

I've been an IMDb user for a long time and over the years I've matured in my personal rating system. Since there's no such thing as a "perfect" movie, I only rate 10/10's to movies I personally love. Usually my 9's are objectively better made films than my 10's. That being said.

I believe this film is as close as you can get to a perfect film. I wish people would appreciate the craft of this film even if it's not your story. Just like Lord of the Rings or Goodfellas, this film is goes above and beyond just telling a story. It gives you an experience.

I think it deserves a spot in the top 250!

Who's with me? Up you're rating by one point! You know she deserves it. She may be 23 years old but isn't she a dish when she's on screen?

Confidentially saying better then the Original

Warning: Spoilers
100% Subjective. This was my first Jurassic Park movie that I saw in the theater when I was young, so it did leave an impression. Yes, I know Jurassic Park is a better made movie all around but for some reason I LOVE LOST WORLD. All the way down to Trex in the city. It's parts are worth more than it's sum...I'll give it that but there's so much to love in this film.

THE HIGH HIDE LOL. Into the whole trailer sequence with the cliff. PERFECT Direction. The plot constantly thickens as things progressively get worse. EDDIE!!! lol

The take away from this movie is the compy scene. I think it's one of the best scenes in the entire franchise. Perfect execution of mixing animatronics and cgi. You don't see this in film anymore. The three way shot cut from top, left and right with the camera, slightly overlapped for emphasis. So cool.

And of course, how can we forget...

DONT GO INTO THE HIGH GRASSSSS!!!!!
