The Rewrite (2014)

Better than expected

This movie recently popped up on Netflix and I had never even heard of it. I just gave it a shot and quite enjoyed it. There is a great cast highlighted by Hugh Grant and Marisa Tomei. There is, of course, a level of predictability with this film but I was okay with it here.

Hugh Grant plays a washed up writer whose looking to get his next film but instead lines up a job teaching screen writing at a college in Binghamton, NY. The movie is well shot, and there are some great scenes including the one at the old carousel in town that apparently you can still ride to this day. I would definitely recommend this film for a couple having a night in.

Homicide: New York (2024)

Good crime documentary

Homicide: New York is a 5 episode series of 5 different cases that happened in New York city. I wish I couId vote halves because I would rate it 7.5 so I rounded up to 8. I enjoyed each of the cases and how they were presented with a high quality production and interviews from the police and the victims families. 2 things did bother me about this series, one was the music which at times was overly dramatic and took away from the series, and the other was the lady who was the medical examiner, I forget here name, who spoke in this overly dramatic tone the entire time and I just didn't like it. I would definitely recommend this series and hope that they look to doing more in the future.

The Program: Cons, Cults, and Kidnapping (2024)

Important documentary, but disappointedly put together

I'm being generous with a 6, maybe its closer to 5. I was looking forward to watching based on the high rating it has on imdb as I love documentaries. Unfortunately I found the documentary to be poorly put together. Don't get me wrong, I feel horrible for what these kids had to go through and there was definitely something sinister going on here. I just didn't enjoy the narrator, the lack of cohesive interviews. It would have been much better with some parent interviews, maybe someone from the actual school. There is no doubt some of these kids were troubled, one spoke of using heroin during high school. Unfortunately it all came out flat for me.

One Day (2024)

Great series!

Really enjoyed this series. I don't understand the comments regarding the chemistry and Emma being miscast. I thought she was great. Also too many comments comparing to the movie. Who cares how it compares to the movie? Me and my wife watched over the course of 3 nights which worked out to be about 2hrs. I never read the book so I can't say how it follows it but from what I read it does a good job. I loved the filming locations, the costumes which seemed accurate for the times. I would absolutely recommend to anybody to watch. As with any show it's not for everyone but giving this a 1 rating is completely silly.
