Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
Can't wait for the next one!!
I usually don't pay much attention to the reviews on IMDb because they seem to be written by wannabe film school students and not basic public movie watchers. After seeing all the horrid reviews I had to speak up.
Finally a video game movie that feels like your watching a video game. The first four "Resident Evil" movies were more of a traditional type (A story inspired by characters and events from a video game). This one goes a different route and is more like watching an automated video game with the characters of the previous movies.
I don't need complicated plot lines, character arcs or a believable story to be entertained. Personally, I could watch Alice (Milla Jovovich), Jill Valentine (Sienna Guillory), Rain (Michelle Rodriguez) & Ada Wong (Bingbing Li) kick butt video game style for 12 hours straight. But maybe that's just me. I'm the kind of guy that watches an entire season of "24" on my one day off.
I own the first four "Resident Evil" DVDs and after renting "Retribution" I'll be buying it too.
I'll sum it it with the fact that I really enjoyed this movie. No, the movie isn't thought provoking, a social commentary or an exploration into the human psyche. It just get's Alice through another day.
Death to the Supermodels (2005)
It's a movie not a film school project.
The movie was funny. I swear some of these comments are from people who just don't have a sense of humor. Or they are too intellectual for their own good. There are a lot of people in this world and have different tastes in movies. Some people like movies that don't make them think too much and you can just laugh at the over the top performances. Take it for what it is, one big joke. It wasn't meant as an Oscar winner, just another DVD to be rented or bought. If you like movies where they don't take themselves too seriously, watch this movie. I recommend this movie to anyone who wants to just sit back and be entertained. No thinking required. No message. Just watch it and don't try to analyze the movie. You might actually have fun.
Dark Water (2005)
A movie only a film student could like.
To start with I'm not a teenager, I'm in my forties. I've tried and I've tried but I cannot make it past 35 minutes watching this movie. The cast and acting is great, the film work is great. The movie is a snore-fest. I tried watching the making of feature on the DVD hoping it would give me hope that there might be some redemption in this movie, but even that put me to sleep. This film seems like an exercise in the technical aspects of film making, not a movie. Even though I'm a huge fan of Jennifer Connelly and hers & the other actors performances may be terrific, it's still a pitiful excuse for a movie. The best performance in a BAD movie doesn't change it from being a bad movie. Summary: Great for film students, bad for the general paying public.
