And Just Like That... (2021)
Too much and too little at the same time
I'm in my early 30s and have loved the original SATC for years now. I dealt with the movies and was semi-excited for the reboot. I knew Samantha wasn't coming back, and that was always gonna be bad, but I still came into this show open-minded and excited.
Well, suffice to say all of that excitement is long gone.
Several things bother me in this show. Let me preface this by saying that unlike some people in these reviews, I am NOT a conservative who hates on LGBTQ people and is generally against the social justice movement! I have an extremely strong belief in allowing everyone to express themselves and live their best life. With that out of the way...
This show is WAY too woke in an extremely forced way.
I literally have to pause or look away when watching Miranda struggle to be inclusive. Charlotte's whole dinner party thing was just awful and I fully expected her to be ridiculed for doing her homework on these paintings the way she was showing off her recited knowledge. Carrie's podcast is destroying me - it's so NOT her it feels like it's being shoved down our throats just to be extra inclusive. I miss her (usually) witty column without these over-the-top co-hosts throwing vulgarities left and right.
Speaking of inclusivity, they hired an actress in a wheelchair and then proceeded to make her an absolute nightmare of a person who can't read the room. That's not how you do it, people!
Charlotte's child questioning their gender and wearing ridiculous outfits also feels forced to me. It's like the writers made a checklist of "modern, woke, social justice things" and are checking things off one by one whether the viewers want to see it or not.
I'm all for inclusivity in shows when it's being treated naturally. In SATC, it's really not. Think of shows like Orange is the New Black where all these things that SATC is trying to do are being treated in a natural manner. It's not a big deal that someone is gay, non-binary, a person of color, etc. And it shouldn't be made into a big deal the way SATC is doing it right now.
More points come to my mind than I should be writing in this review -- it's already long. But I do have a problem with the send-off they gave to Stanford (ridiculous,) the way the whole Carrie and Big thing went down throughout the series, and a lot more. Carrie spends less time grieving Big's death than she spends whining about her new apartment. It makes ZERO sense.
This is NOT the show we loved. It's how white, privileged, rich writers imagine the real world to look like. Newsflash: this ain't it, people.
Spider-Man: Far from Home (2019)
Action-packed, funny, and exciting
I enjoyed this film a lot, and - controversial opinion? - I liked it even better than Homecoming!
Although some of the characters we loved are gone, seeing Peter struggle to be a teenager who also happens to be a superhero was heartwarming. I felt for him, and I enjoyed Tom's realistic portrayal of this very young, sometimes childish, but extremely kind Spider-Man.
The movie was really funny and the whole theater laughed out loud several times. The plot was gripping and interesting, action-packed, and all of the fight and/or flight scenes were just amazing. Seeing Spider-Man more confident than in Homecoming, at the top of his game, was truly breathtaking.
I'm definitely seeing this one again. It's a must-see for any MCU fan, but also suited for a casual viewer that doesn't follow the entire Marvel universe.
Interactive Introverts (2018)
For the Fans, regardless of age
I'm laughing at all the salty amateur film critics who are snubbing this film. Why did you even buy it?
Interactive Introverts is a recording of Dan and Phil's stage show. This is not a film that should be purchased by non-fans, as they will not understand the humour. However, I disagree with the opinion that this film is strictly for tweens. I'm in my late 20s and enjoyed both the show and the film immensely.
Dan and Phil have a fantastic dynamic that truly shines in this show. They hold their audience captive for the entire duration, and as a fan, I laughed many times during Interactive Introverts. It's a wonderful opportunity to revisit one of my favourite memories and I would spend twice as much on this film if I had to.
If you're a fan, you will love it. If you're a random person with no intention to watch Dan and Phil on YouTube, don't buy this and then leave bad reviews, because you are NOT the target audience for this title.
