Don't F**k with Cats: Hunting an Internet Killer (2019)
vigilantly internet detective blames viewer for what transpired
It was alright right up until the end when the film makers and the vigilantly internet detective Deanna Thompson decided to blame the viewer for what transpired because of our curiosity and our wanting to watch the documentary, "Were we to blame!?!" No, of course not. The rest was pretty good except for the unnecessary weak ending.
Mignonnes (2020)
The film's simple message is lost in ignorance and misplaced hate
This is a coming of age film in which a young girl rebels against the suppressive religion she is brought up in while having to deal with her father is marrying another woman. Most of the time this genre would limit to playing out a divorce, but this film also shows how the young girl is forced to deal with old traditions and the adults in the family's failure to properly integrate into the French and western society they immigrated to, which further confuses the girl, because her peers lead a very different life, one that is more attractive to her as well. While dealing with the family issues, the film also unashamedly puts a spotlight on where we are today in western society, making it easier and easier for young children to make poor decisions with a smartphone, there's one scene which I won't spoil, but it deals with an exposure problem that young girls don't really care or understand the consequences of at that age. I don't want to write an essay on why this film deserves to exist but I find that the same kind of people hating on this film are also mainly the same ones that shout loudly that children of the same age (and younger!) should be able to make a life changing decision on what gender they associate as, without understanding the very nature of children doing and deciding things without properly understanding the long term consequences. This film shows all of this wrapped in a package of ignorance by adults forcing a religion on a child that makes little sense to her surroundings.
Countdown (2019)
It's honestly good
I kind of expected a dumb teen horror but it is much more than that, the main characters do a great job and are relatable which always helps when watching a film. I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it. I think maybe the only weakness was the priest in the hospital hanging out with the hospital staff, which seemed far fetched, The comedic moments were good too, not too much and just enough to take the edge off of the horror aspect. I give it a solid 7/10 well worth the watch.

Spencer would have done a better job!
I was drawn to this film because of Miranda Cosgrove who I really hope can catch a break post iCarly because she is just a nice person, but I couldn't help thinking that if her on screen brother Spencer from iCarly would have been there, he would have done a better job than all of these "pro" astronauts that only seem to be great at failing to make the correct decision. The film painted the picture that they barely made it four years into the mission before they started going loopy, anyway I watched till the end and was left feeling like it was all for nowt.
Fear Itself (2015)
It's great to fall asleep with
I'm not saying it's boring, but Amy Watson narrates the documentary in a soothing relaxed voice while clips of various films pass by. One reviewer says that the clips don't seem to hold any context with the storyline, but I think they do, in some way they relate to what she is saying, and the subject matter is always of course, fear itself. I recorded this when it was on the BBC and watched it in bed. 90 minutes is just right and I was able to get through it fine.
I had watched many of the films that were featured but the clips that are shown are hardly ever climatic scenes, as in , the one you would normally see scattered throughout trailers or other documentaries, in fact some of the scenes made me question if I had seen the film properly all the way through.
It's not great but it isn't terrible either.
Reign of Fire (2002)
Could have been so much more
I know it's just a movie, but it annoys me that although this is set a couple of decades after the destruction of civilization the Americans were still able to fuel their tank, jeeps, motorbikes and a helicopter (all of which never seemed to need refueling), and all the while looking like they just stepped out of a military base with ammo and fresh gear. At the start of the film, at least the mock fortification looked like it belonged!
Few other things, loads of under kids young enough to be born well after the nuclear events, yet we've got an incredible shortage of food.. hmm?
At least it was OK enough to see through to the end. Shame the whole world wasn't able to figure out there was only one male dragon until a couple of decades after!
Evil Dead (2013)
When remakes fail
Well I've just finished watching this, and I have to say that I am very disappointed. If the intention was to do a remake of the original, then it failed on many levels. If you like excess of blood and gore and a weakened diluted back story you might enjoy this though.
Evil Dead 2 did a better job at attempting to remake the original (with a higher budget) and that was over twenty five years ago!
Character development was rushed and lazy, the character "Mia" was about the only likable one, but only towards the end of the film. Makeup wasn't too bad, but I'm left wondering why they needed to "update" another classic. At least we've still got the original Evil Dead films to fall back on. I expected more but was left wanting. Hopefully nobody gets any funny ideas about remaking Army of Darkness. 3/10
