Trilogia II: I skoni tou hronou (2008)
was there a script development meeting for this film?
We sat through this movie thinking why is this or that scene in the movie, what does this have to do with the plot? We hoped that by the end everything would be slightly more clear. It was not to be.
I think the director in a fit of pique threw the script up in the air and then some minor (and vengeful) underling reassembled it randomly with no regard to the scene being filmed (possibly with scissors and glue-stick).
The film's motifs include: Communism bad? Nihilism bad? Poor parenting bad? Threesomes bad? TV bad? Coherent scripting bad? Deconstructionism good? It's really not clear.
Finally, no German water taxi would EVER have an unchained staircase that would let passengers fall in to the water. The abundant quantity of "achtung" signs everywhere is testament to this fact.
Codco (1986)
more edgy than anything ever on TV before or since
Canada has produced most of the funniest television of north america. While it may not be our major industry, it is one where the Americans do much of their recruiting. But Hollywood never travelled as far as Newfoundland, preferring the manhattanian luxuries of Toronto. It is a shame because Codco is the most original, biting, and hilarious TV comedy sketch show ever recorded. Produced at the same time as Kids in the hall, it was always the far edgier, more scathing, and a whole lot less "lite" than the Kids were. But it was the Kids who went to America, at the same time the Cod disappeared from the newfoundland fisheries. Suspicious timing there, methinks.
All the Love You Cannes! (2002)
Cinema verite meets Cannes meets the three stooges on acid
Known for what must be the cheapest and cheesiest of the indie film world, Troma films takes on Cannes with gallons of fake blood, the Tronettes, and numerous hijinks by an uncontrollable group of volunteer Troma fans, costumed, naked, and did I mention covered with blood?
The most ultrazany documentary ever made? Well its on the list anyway.
Whileany publicity is good publicity, the low budget Troma films must wonder what this will do to their reputation. And I think they're thinking, woohoo!
