The Happening (2008)
After two steps back M. Night takes one step forward
Movie: The Happening 8 out of 10 stars Directed by: M. Night Shamyalon Stars: Mark Whalberg Rated: R for Some Mild Cursing, disturbing images, some graphic scenes of suicide and sucide.
After his smash hit The 6th Sense in 1999,Night has never lived up to it. Sure Unbrakeable and Signs where good. (I for one enjoyed them both and thought that Unbrakeable was very underrated.) But after those 2 Night has been O.K. at best. The Village was not a good movie at all. And Wail I thought that Lady in the Water was a good movie it still was not a step in the right direction of once again being a great director.
The Happining however changed that, wail not perfect, or even as good as Signs he shows that he still has what it takes be a great director. The writing is good as is the acting. The story has a thought provoking theme and is well told and developed. But what is pherheps best about the movie is also what the worst part is and that is that you the viewer are left to decide what really (pun intended) happens. Mark W. Is excllent. And Zooey is HOT!!!
So all in all not perfect but a good movie. Hopfully Night builds upon this and can once again return to top form.
The Dresden Files (2007)
Why, oh, why was this canceled?!?
Television must have it out for me. Every few months or so a new show comes on the air. I watch the first episode then i'm hooked! But the networks get together after about 12 or 13 episodes (sometimes not even that long.)and say ' ya know what? This show tries really hard, has a fun and interesting plot, and its small fan base is growing steadily. Lets cancel it and act like its all their fault.' I mean what the @#$%*!!! The Dresden Files, Journeyman, (the still unsure future of) 'Eureka'. A few others are(Heres a blast from the past for ya.) Star trek, The Twilight Zone- both of which went on to become cultural revolutions that would shape t.v. for years to come but were canceled after 3 and 5 seasons, respectively. Oh, and here's the killer for me 'FIREFLY'!!! I loved this show, and so did many others. I think its time to show those studios whose boss!!! Whose with me!?! Bring back The Dresden Files! its better than most of the @#$% they have on there now! Your friend and hero, Godfather-114
The Shining (1980)
Pure Brilliance
Let me start off by saying that this movie is incredible. Kubrick's cinematography is genius. I love it! I find it a bit of a guilty pleasure to uncover all of its enticing secrets and hidden messages. One of my favorites is that in the main title sequence, when Jack is driving the yellow VW, The only other cars on the road are either heading in the other direction or they are stalled. When i pointed this out to someone they said 'maybe its because Kubrick was trying to show that Jack is on a road that will end in tragedy.' (I.E.- The overlook in the beginning at the end of the literal road and the Maze in the end of a figurative one, or a journey.)The use of the newly invented Steady-Cam was fantastically done. In short- I LOVE THE SHINING!!!!! **********(10) out of **********(10)
Silent Running (1972)
Great Movie!!!!!
this movie was fantastic! Bruce Dern gives the best performance that he has ever done. It gives us a very important message about environmentalism and about its value to us as humans. I loved this movie and hope to see it again whenever its on t.v. again. anyway I firmly recommend this movie to anyone who is looking for either a great environmental/SiFi movie or just something to watch. But i warn you, this movie will probably be considered boring if you are not really interested in it. But aside from that it is the best science fiction movie that i have ever seen! I firmly give it a 9 1/2 out of ten (only because it can get VERY dramatic at times and left a few questions) but still check it out!
