Sin City (2005)
huh?
So, i saw Sin City and i don't get what the big deals about. i was skeptical when i heard that they where making the movie, though miller was still in creative control. once i saw the trailer, i was extremely excited, to say the least. from what i saw in the trailer they got the concept of how the the books look and felt.
fast forward a couple of months, and I'm sitting in the theater watching the movie. Marv's story was just about to start, so far i was not impressed nor disappointed. for some reason it just didn't feel right, i couldn't put my finger on it. this doesn't have to do with the petty stuff (ie Marv's head being bigger than his torso and it looked like he's going to fall over). this bothered me for the rest of the movie. reflecting on the movie i realized it was the pacing. none of the from the novels, in my opinion, where kept. it seemed as if it had a constant beat and every once and a while kicked it up a notch.
another odd part was the movement of the characters, it seemed as if they thought they where superheros. these are just normal people in an insane condition, no powers. the exception to this is Kevin he was the only character who's movements where as portrayed in the book.
the part of the movie i enjoyed was the jail scene, every thing moved just as the book did and i enjoyed it. as for the rest of the movie it wasn't anything special other than the way it was shot, it wasn't really a noir it was just careful with colors.
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002)
wow
this movie was great. all the symbolism and foreshadowing to the other movies rules. the computer animation blew me away(then i went to see it in a digital theater and it blew me away again). there are a couple of problems, 1st halfs pacing is slow, and there are times when it needed music to keep the pace up. but other than those few things this movie was great.
Deuces Wild (2002)
Wheres the rest
This movie had really great points in it and overall was a pretty good film. The only draw back was that it was missing part of the story. it felt as if there where parts left out that could have made the movie go smoother. it seemed like they took the movie from a book and had to leave key parts out, and im not sure if there is a book. I did enjoy the last 20 very much; this movie could have been great if it did have the missing areas.
Donnie Darko (2001)
real film
this is the type of movie that should be called a film not a movie. donnie darko is a great experience being fresh and actually has a reason to see and not just mindless entertainment that plagues our theaters these days.
the social satire in this movie is what attracted me to it. the flawed teaching of the high school gym teacher and her efforts to get rid of the book read in the class shows how maybe we are teaching kids to be political correct instead of themselves.
the movie had a very real feel in the writing and acting. the discussion of time travel between donnie and the science teacher didnt look like acting but like the entire movie had a genuine feel and a passion that the entire cast and crew had for the movie. drew barrymore's bit part in this movie was 30 times better that her performance in "riding in cars with boys".
i find it a shame that more people dont like this movie because they have been ruined by crap like the mummy movies.
