The Earth Mover (2022)
Reminds me of old westerns, a tribute to the land.
I was brought to a screening of this film, and I was surprised. I wouldn't say I'm an independent film fan, I have gone to a few other festivals and they can be a bit... Intense, dramatic or just so heavy with an agenda. And often you are left drained at the end. I think that's what a lot of indie film makers think is needed to be a "good independent film".
"The Earth Mover" was fun and fancy. It was the kind of movie you want to see in a theater, because the sound is so immersive that it makes you feel connected to what the character is experiencing, like you're with him on the journey. There's a deeper meaning too, but it's never forced. I was impressed and I am going to follow the guy who made it to see what else he comes up with.
If you can find it see it!
The Peripheral (2022)
Love this show!
I had never heard of this book but I thought I'd give it a chance and see what I thought. I am a science-fiction fan, but I did not know it first that this was the genre. Lol, I guess it was just a cover for the show itself that intrigued me. Well after the first episode, I was completely hooked. It was exciting lots of action, but it did not compromise the story to do this. It was with out knowing clear to me that this was adapted from novel because of the depth of the narrative. I usually like science fiction TV shows or movies more when they are adaptations. The main character is dimensional, she is sweet, caring, tough and vulnerable. This mixture is often lacking in female leads these days.
I would recommend it to anyone looking science-fiction action that isn't just pretty shifts and sounds but also a great story to tell.
